Austin “Bub” James Thomas, age 16, went home to his Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 16, 2012. He was born August 26, 1995 in Renton, Washington to Jason and Mika Thomas.
Austin was known for his many qualities: He was a protector of his younger siblings whom he adored; his beautiful crooked smile; his huge sense of humor; he would create and deliver impromptu standup comedy routines that kept his family in stitches; his close loving relationship with is grandfather “Papa” Thomas and grandmother Nana Thomas as their Monkey Man; his great love and passion for football and his promise as an athlete as a sophomore at Sedro-Woolley High School. He was already receiving attention from NCAA Division 1 Colleges. He was making plans for a special day with his girlfriend Claire, and that was just another example of his love of life.
Austin was always moving, planning, and looking forward with high energy. He had a warm caring spirit and was very respectful of others. Austin had a strong presence and demonstrated leadership qualities. He was also a scholar who planned an eventual career in sports medicine and or sports marketing after he achieved his football goals.
Austin’s intense, warm, loving spirit naturally developed into a tight bond with each of his parents and siblings. Austin’s parents both recall their first born as their best friend and there are no words to express their grief. Austin was a great brother to his siblings. Alex recalls his big brother coming to his football practices and taking time to lovingly coach his football skills.
Cassie Grace recalls Austin’s ability to make her feel special. She always got his second hug, after Mom got the first, when Austin came off the football field.

Ann Elizabeth Nelson, age 91, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012, culminating a life filled with hard work, adventure, and, most importantly, family. She was born July 28, 1920 in Sedro-Woolley, Washington to Avery and Etta (Robinson) Stiles.
Ann grew up in the Skagit Valley, playing catcher on the softball team before graduating from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1938. She married Frank Gee just before the beginning of World War II. During that time, when many of the men were serving in the war, she worked in the logging industry as a whistle punk, sounding the steam whistle to communicate about logging activities. Frank preceded her in death in 1943.
On November 26, 1947, Ann married Stanley Nelson Jr., owner of Nelson Chevrolet in Sedro-Woolley. In 1951 they, together, built the home that would become the center for family gatherings. Then called the Nelson Hereford Ranch, and now called Foothills Farm, over the years they raised cattle, riding horses, racehorses, Ann’s flourishing vegetable garden, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Ann left her mark on many things, but especially the Annual 4th of July celebration and the heirloom tarheel beans cultivated from seeds given to her by her mother from Sylva, NC.
In 1958, Stan and Ann moved their family to Seattle to run Nelson Chevrolet in Ballard when Stan Nelson Sr. retired.. The Nelson Family is one of the oldest and largest automotive families in the Northwest. As the matriarch, she promoted that all her children grow and maintain the family businesses. With her support and guidance, all 4 children have owned and operate automobile dealerships today. She was especially adamant that her daughters take leadership roles alongside her husband and son. Currently her daughters own and operate Acura of Bellevue and Foothills Toyota Scion in Burlington. She always talked about the business and her wisdom and vision helped guide the family businesses through the challenging economic times of the past few years. She was featured in The Puget Sound Dealer Magazine in the Fall of 2007 as “a Matriarch of the Auto Industry, with the quote “You can do anything you want. Never give up.””
The family continued to split their time, spending weekends and summers at the farm, and building a strong presence in the Seattle community. Ann was a great Husky and Mariner fan, longtime supporter of the Seattle Milk Fund, and member of the Puget Sound Syndicate Investment Club and the Washington Athletic Club.
Throughout her life, Ann maintained a sense of adventure, always trying new things and improving on what had come before. She holds the record for the largest deer killed by a woman in Sedro-Woolley and she once bowled a 299 game. Ann loved horses and even rode one on her 90th birthday. She was always full of advice for her children and grandchildren, and encouraged them both personally and professionally. Her home and her kitchen were always warm and welcoming, full of good food, cheer and love. She was a wonderful model of beauty and strength. Her amazing smile and kind heart will never be forgotten.
She is survived by four children; Stanley Nelson III and wife Robin of Seattle, Barbara Nelson and husband James Bradshaw of Seattle, Fredricka Nelson Bolinger and husband Charlie of Woodinville, and Pamela Nelson and husband Tom Strotkamp of Sedro-Woolley. Eleven grandchildren; Ann-Margaret Nelson Johnson, Stanley Nelson IV, Hilaree Nelson O’Neill, Robert Sesnon, Nelson Haldane, David Bolinger, Liz King, Ericka Sisolak, Charlie Bolinger, and Matt & Tyler Steinman and seven great-grandchildren. Her brother, William Stiles and wife Betty of Sedro-Woolley, sister, Faye Jenson of Salem, OR, and sister-in-law, Bliss Nelson Miller of Bellevue and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Stanley Jr., brother Louie Stiles, and two sisters, Helen Berg and Mabel Cline.
The family would like to extend a special thank you for the care given to Ann by Dr. Werner Samson, Sherry Turner, and the medical staff at the University of Washington Medical Center. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 2:00PM at Foothills Farm on 25292 Hoehn Rd in Sedro-Woolley. Memorials are suggested to Sedro-Woolley High School Alumni Association, Seattle Milk Fund 1130 N Northgate Way Seattle, WA 98133 or Seattle Children’s M/S S200 PO Box 5371Seattle, WA 98145=5005. Arrangements and Services under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.

Alvaro Serrano, also known as Spooky, age 33, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away unexpectedly on Friday March 23, 2012.

He was born on July 19, 1978 in Tijuana, Mexico, but has resided in Washington State since he was a baby. Spooky worked many different odds jobs. Most recently he worked as a car detailer out of his home. He loved working on and fixing up low rider cars.

He went to Ferndale High School and spent his younger years in the Grandview, WA area.

He was a beloved husband, father and son. Even though sometimes it was hard to get him to smile for pictures, he was quick to smile in person. He was loved and adored by many people, he will be greatly missed.

Spooky was a caring person with a big heart. He was fun spirited. He was always trying to make someone laugh but serious at times. He loved spending time with the family, going camping, on hikes, to the beach, spending time outdoors and hanging with the kids. He will be deeply missed by more people then we can imagine. He was most happy being busy. He was our go to guy if we needed help with anything like your car washed or detailed. If you needed help moving, fixing anything, yard work, painting, working on your trailer, he was always there with a smile and quick to help out wherever and whenever. He was quiet, and did not talk much till he got to know you, but then he was a chatter box.

“Thought of you today, but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday and days before that too. I think of you in silence, I often speak your name. All I have are memories and a picture in a frame. Your memory is a keepsake, with which I will never part. God has you in his keeping. I have you in my heart.”

Spooky was preceded in death by his grandparents, Natividad Zepeda Cervantes & Carmen Zepeda Garibay, Miguel Serrano & Eladia Garibay; his siblings, Alma Serrano & Marisol Cesar and his niece, Heaven Castaneda Serrano.

Spooky leaves behind his wife, Erin and their three children, Christian, Isaac, & Alysiana; his parents, Angelita Serrano-Zepeda & Miguel Serrano-Garibay; niece’s, Cassandra Serrano and Samantha Serrano Perez; his mother & father-in-law, Rhoda & Tim Haussler; his sister-in-law, Rianne Chase & her fiancé Trevor Vance; niece, Ally; his brother, Victor (Michelle) Serrano & their four children, Jasmine, Aracelly, Gissele & Victor Jr.; his sister, Vanessa (Carlos) Castaneda & their three children, Alma Monique, Bianca, & Carlos Jr., and his, brother Miguel Serrano. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends & family; familia Zepeda, Garibay, Serrano, & Fernandez.

Viewing for friends and family will be held on Tuesday, March 27th and Wednesday the 28th from 9 to 5, followed by a Memorial Service on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 3:00pm at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley. A Celebration of Life will be held after the service at the Sedro-Woolley Eagles.

Judith (Judy) Gayle Fredrickson, age 65, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 after a lengthy illness at her home in Sedro-Woolley, Washington. She was born March 15, 1946 in Sedro-Woolley, Washington to Aurel (Wink) and Eleanor LaCasse. She graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1964. Judy spent most of her life in Sedro-Woolley, but called Clallam Bay, WA her home for a number of years.
One of her accomplishments and greatest joys was her daycare, where her life touched many children’s lives, and theirs touched hers as well. Judy was a member of the Clallam Bay Red Hat Society and the Bazaar Crafters. She loved to sew and spent many hours making various crafts. She was also a wonderful cook and made fabulous pies and cakes, how appropriate that she passed on National Pi (Pie) Day! However, her greatest love in life was being a mom and grandma to all around her.
Judy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia (Patty) and Kevin Tyler of Smyrna, TN: sons, Dennis Fredrickson of Sekiu, WA and Glen Pizzuto of Port Angeles, WA. Her sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and John Dills of Sedro-Woolley, WA and her brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Nancy LaCasse of Montesano, WA. She is also survived by six grandchildren and many others who called her “Grandma Judy” throughout the years, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Judy was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew.
A gathering of friends and family will be held in July in Clallam Bay during Fun Days and Sedro-Woolley on a date to be announced later. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity that benefits children or a food bank, taking care of others was something she was very passionate about. Arrangements and cremation under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
