Wilma June Hayes

Thursday, February 19th, 2015

On Thursday, February 19, 2015, Wilma June Hayes, 80, of Sedro Woolley, went to be

with her Lord.  Wilma was born June 6, 1934, the 5th of 6 children, to Joseph and Pearl Stewart in Ardmore, Oklahoma. The family moved to California when she was about 11 years old. Soon

after graduating from high school she began her career as a bookkeeper for Hayes Electric in

Cupertino, California.

In 1971 she married the love of her life, Edward Hayes. They moved to Sedro Woolley in 1978,

where she then worked for Dahl Electric.

Wilma loved to cook, collect recipes, have a movie night with friends, go to lunch with her Birthday Club, go to Bible study every week, and watch the Mariners, to name a few.

She was a faithful and active member of Central Valley Assembly of God, in Burlington, where

she served in women’s ministries in various ways.

Wilma was a two time cancer survivor who, despite other illnesses and physical setbacks, fought with determination to live her life to the fullest. Her love and faith in god, and the love she shared with many friends and family are what saw her through.

Wilma is survived by her three step-children; Patt Manzano (Don), of California, Linda Benoit (Dan), of Bellingham, Scott Hayes (Joyce), of Texas; step-grandchildren, Donald Manzano Jr.,

of California, Michael Hayes, of Texas; step-great-grandchildren, Deseree, Brysen, Benjemen, Lucee, and Linken Manzano, of California, Noah and Ella Hayes, of Texas; two sisters, Jean Hess (Walt), of Sedro Woolley, Peggy Henderson, of Sedro Woolley; numerous nieces

and nephews.

She is preceded in Death by her husband, Edward Hayes; step-granddaughter, Stephanie Manzano; parents, Joseph and Pearl Stewart; brother, Cletus Stewart; sisters, Opal Stewart, and Mary Davis; niece, Sharon Davis.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 26, 2015, at Central Valley Assembly of God.

I have only known Wilma for several months. I met her at the Kidney dialysis center. She was an inspiration to everyone, always had a smile on her face and an upbeat attitude. I will miss her.

Aunt Wilma’s joy and laughter will alway’s be with me along with the best memories; a childhood filled with family campouts, picnics, and holidays together. As an adult, living far away in Alaska, we kept close through long phone calls and visits from time to time to her sweet home in Sedro Woolley. I was lucky to get to attend a couple of the famous July 4th BBQ’s too.

Aunt Wilma, a special lady. I love you,
    Always,
    Debra Davis

  • Mel & Gerry Keys

Gerry and I grew up with Wilma in Cupertino, had a lot of good time together, went to the same Church, laughed a lot. Gerry and I were able to visit Wilma and her family several times for the July 4th celebrations.
We are so sorry that were not able to come and see Wilma before and also to come to her memorial service.
Gerry has not been in good health, and not able to go very little out side of the home.
I know we will meet again in Heaven and we can share some old time together.
We love Wilma and all her Family, We felt like we were part of the family.
    Love and Blessing on all

I’ll always remember Wilma as being a happy person and fun to be with. We could sit and talk for hours morning or evening. A very long time ago when we were in Sedro Woolley she gave me a “women’s Ministries Cookbook and I’ve used it for years. Harold and I really enjoyed when she and her sister were in California to be with Peggy and stayed with us. My daughter and her family said she was so feisty, never a dull moment ,always making us laugh. She got a kick out of us taking her to Costco for dinner, she pushed the cart and bugged Harold the whole time. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family in there time of sorrow.
    Always remember the good times
    love Stevi and Harold Henderson

Aunt Wilma was one of a kind!! I have such fond childhood memories of hanging out with Aunt Wilma and listening to all of her favorite Elvis Presley records. Being the oldest niece, we had some great times together. I am very happy I was able to come visit Aunt Wilma in May of this year. We had a wonderful time together even though she was not feeling 100%. I will cherish the memories forever!!

Loved you bunches!! Hugs and kisses to all the family that you are now with!!

    Always………….XOXO Lanna and family

We had the great privilege of being Wilma’s neighbors for about 5 years. We rented the yellow house right next to her and would strike up conversations as we always seemed to be taking the garbage out at the same time!! That’s how it all started 🙂 We became the kind of neighbors that sent each other Christmas cards, could visit about anything at any time and where a hug was always as natural as breathing. She took an interest in our kids as well, and they always made sure we had “Neighbor Wilma” on the graduation announcement mailing list!

July 4th was always met with great excitement. Wilma had her corner staked out for the parade and my family would “set up camp” close by. As a result we got to meet the various family members that were there for the big family BBQ afterwards. After Derek and I moved, which she never forgave us for and always made sure we knew it 😉 , the 4th of July celebratory tradition continued. She was always so sweet and accommodating with the parking situation and the use of her bathroom! My Thompson/Pulver clan very much appreciated her for that.

Over the years when I’d be on my way home, I’d swing by here and there to talk and catch up. I’m so glad I took the time. What a wonderful lady…I could go on and on.

We love you, Neighbor Wilma!! Til we meet again…
