Agda ‘Jo’ Monrad-Tisdale, 87, a Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley.
She was born on July 27, 1918 in Mount Vernon, Washington, the daughter of Axel & Anna Olson. Jo was raised and attended school in Mount Vernon, graduating from Mount Vernon High School with the class of 1937. She then attended and graduated from Mount Vernon Beauty School, and against parental objection she moved to Concrete where she worked as a beautician in Alma Ross’ beauty shop for several years.
She was united in marriage to Edgar Monrad in Mount Vernon on November 15, 1941 and they made their home and raised their family in Concrete. Edgar passed away in 1970 and in 1975 Jo married Garth Tisdale and they lived in Whatcom County until 1985 when they moved to Sedro-Woolley. Garth passed away in 1996.
Jo was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed gardening, visiting with her family and friends and ‘going shopping.’
She is survived by her 2 sons and their wives, Bruce & Judy Monrad and Brad & Kathy Monrad all of Concrete and by her daughter, Barbara Monrad of Sedro-Woolley. 2 grandsons and their wives, Greg & Wendy Monrad of Anchorage, AK and Steven & Alyssa Monrad of Anacortes. Twin great-grandsons, Jade & Jesse Aronson. Her brother, Richard Olson & his wife Edith of Seattle; a sister-in-law, Jeanne Olson of Mount Vernon; special friend, Ilene Sorenson of Sedro-Woolley and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, William Olson and 2 infant brothers.
Jo’s family suggests memorials be made to a charity of your choice.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 22, 2006 at 11:00 am at Hawthorne Memorial Park Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Pastor Wendy Tingley of Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Sedro-Woolley officiating. A potluck fellowship will follow services at the Hawthorne Park reception facility. Services are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
