Arnold J. ‘Redstreak’ Waldrop, 76, a longtime Day Creek area resident passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 20, 2005, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on March 9, 1929 in Phoenix, Arizona, the son of Nimrod & Lula Dale Waldrop. In 1948 his family moved to the Big Lake area and on July 9, 1949 he was united in marriage to Bernice ‘Pete’ Proctor.
Arnold worked in the logging industry and in 1956 that occupation took his family to Thornbay, Alaska. It was there that Arnold was injured in a logging accident. The family returned to the Big Lake area in 1968 and Arnold returned to logging as a tree cutter for several more years, retiring in 1992.
His favorite past time was hound hunting with his grandson, Sean and many of his great friends. He was a member of the Sno-King Hound Club, the N.R.A., and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #2069 in Sedro-Woolley.
He loved the outdoors and a good day of hard work.
His family was of great joy to him in his last days.
Arnold is survived by his wife, Bernice ‘Pete’ at the family home in Day Creek. His children, Elaine Lindquist Steen McFadden, Carolyn Waldrop and Steve Waldrop, all living in Skagit County. 2 brothers, Buck & Vonray Waldrop, both of Big Lake and 4 sisters, Arietta Taber of Porterville, CA, Eurschel Booth of Mountain Home, AR, Irene Cloquet of Sedro-Woolley and Jackie Chisum of Yuma, AZ. 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Emma Simmons; 2 sons, Bill & Greg Waldrop; his hunting partner, Larry ‘Redrover’ Manke, and longtime friend, Joe Briggs.
Arnold’s family requests that memorials be made to Skagit Hospice.
Graveside Services for Arnold will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at 2:00 PM at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery with Pastor Rick Miles of the Day Creek Chapel officiating.
Services are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
