Arthur Koster, 89, a longtime Skagit County resident passed away on Sunday June 4, 2006 at the Life Care Center of Skagit Valley in Sedro-Woolley.
Art was born on January 3, 1917 in Everett, Washington, the son of John & Jacoba Van Beek Koster. He was raised and attended school in Everett and in 1929, he and his family moved to Lynden and he graduated from Lynden High School in 1935.
On Apr 22, 1942, he was united in marriage to Iva Taylor in Lynden. Art served in the U.S. Army during WW II and after his discharge in 1946, he returned to Lynden where he and Iva made their home. In 1951 they moved to Sedro-Woolley and Art began his career as a life insurance agent for Metropolitan Life. In 1958, they moved to Mount Vernon residing there until Iva’s death in 2001 and then Art returned to live in Sedro-Woolley.
He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon and was an avid golfer.
Art is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Randy & Roberta Koster of Sedro-Woolley. 1 granddaughter Erin Fuller and her husband Michael and their children, Zachary & Madison of Eugene, Oregon. A sister Grace Gelderloos and a brother Ralph Koster and his wife Jenny all of Lynden. 2 sisters-in-law, Clara Koster of Federal Way and Luannis O’Neil and her husband Bill of Bellingham and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife Iva, Art was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Koster in 2004, a brother, Nick Koster and a sister, Carrie Sebens.
Memorial Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon on Friday, June 9, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Ron Deegan officiating. Private interment will be at Hawthorne Lawn Memorial Park in Mount Vernon. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon. Arrangements and services are under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
