Betty A. Osborne

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

Betty A. Osborne, 84, a lifelong Sedro-Woolley resident and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2007.
She was born on February 23, 1923 in Burlington, Washington the daughter of Neil & Sylva Rayburn Doran. She was raised and attended school in Burlington.
In 1941 she was united in marriage to Derward Osborne and they made their home in Sedro-Woolley. After her children had graduated from high school Betty returned to school to get her GED and then attended Skagit Valley College where she earned a nursing degree in Inhalation Therapy. She pursued this skill at United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley until retiring in 1980 to spend time with her husband and family.
She and Derward spent several years traveling, then settled down to work for the reopening of United General Hospital through the Concerned Citizens of Sedro-Woolley. Before UGH was reopened Betty ran for and was elected as a Hospital Commissioner, District 304 and served in that capacity until 2004. The onset of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus and its associated problems forced her retirement as a commissioner and eventually ill health required her to move to the Clayton House in Sedro-Woolley in 2004 where she received exceptionally loving care.
Derward faithfully brought Betty home every day during these last years and they shared many laughs and surprises together, exhibiting a wonderful love and concern for each other.
Betty is survived by her husband, Derward of Sedro-Woolley. Her son and daughter-in-law, Wayne & Tokiko Osborne of Auburn, WA and her daughter and son-in-law, Gail & Tom Williams of Thompson Falls, Montana. 5 grandchildren, Tadashi Osborne Donelle, Gail Wilson Rodney, Cindy Murray Sitka, Samuel Williams Amanda and Benjamin Williams; 6 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Kittel of Mesa, AZ and a brother, Noel Doran of Chandler, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
Betty will be missed by her husband, family, caregivers and friends.
At her request there will be no funeral services. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
