Betty Lou Horne Bussing

Betty Lou entered this world on October 17, 1925 and exited on August 4, 2007. She was born to Robert Horne and Lovida Brown in Anacortes, WA and lived in Skagit County nearly all of her life. Over the years, she lived in Anacortes, Rockport, and Sedro-Woolley and she, literally, knew almost everyone in the county.
She loved working at Northern State Hospital and was heartbroken when it closed. She later worked at Portal and at the Cocusa Motel-working at the motel until just a couple of months ago.
Betty Lou was one of a kind! She has SO many friends, so many people that cared about her-it was amazing. However, she had all of those people in her life because she was such a good friend to all of them. At her 80th birthday party, over 200 friends and relatives attended. She never met a stranger.
She has always been extremely proud of her Native American heritage. In recent years, she went to the Lummi, Sammish, and Swinomish tribes and located several ‘new’ relatives from the Horne and Cayou families. This search was exciting to her because she met some very nice people who accepted her as kin.
Betty Lou was the ‘hub’ of the family, the keeper of the information and the planner of parties-the bigger the better. She could whip together a huge party for a special occasion or just because, in her opinion, it was simply time for a get-together! She was the ultimate Party Woman.
Betty Lou is survived by her husband of 43 years, Frank Busing of Sedro-Woolley; one brother, Robert Horne and his wife Lee of Everett and one sister, Mary Lou Leach and her husband Cal of Burlington. Four children; Veda Baldwin of Tacoma, Karen Klingshern and her husband Ralph of Bothell, Dennis Bussing of Mount Vernon, and Lester Bussing and his wife Cheryl of Arizona. Eleven grandchildren; Dennis, James, Scott, David, Shannon, Denise, BJ, Shannon, Kelly, Dan, Jim and 27 great grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews.
A very special thank you to Nina Weaver & Patty Goodwill for their invaluable help at this difficult time. Memorials are suggested to The Children’s Hospital in Seattle.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at 3:00PM at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley followed by a Potluck Party her favorite at the Sedro-Woolley Legion Hall, celebrating Betty Lou’s wonderful life. Please sign the online guestbook for Betty Lou at www.lemleychapel.com
