Carrie Jo Matson

Carrie Jo Matson

Saturday, June 17th, 2017

Carrie Jo Matson, 32, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 9, 2017 surrounded by love.

Carrie was born on November 19, 1984 with a genetic disorder called Neurofibromatosis.  She spent most of her life in a wheelchair, but that did not define her.  Carrie was an amazing young woman who lived her life with much joy.  There was always a smile on her face, and she had a spirit of joy, laughter, and fun.

She loved to bowl, swim, enjoyed shopping and going out to lunch with her friend, Angel.  Carrie lived her life to the fullest and had many people who loved her.

Carrie is survived by her mom, Nancy Matson; brother, Luke Sandilands, who lovingly helped with her care; younger sister, Jessa Wagner (Spencer Dobie); grandmother, Lila Mapes; aunt, Jamie (Rod) Jewell; uncles, Mike Compton and family, John Raviotta, and family, Barry (Kathi) Matson and family, Dale (Lynda) Matson and family, Tim (Jerri) Matson and family; aunt, Ginny (Paul) Greenwood and family; cousins, Erik Matson and family; caregiver, Tami Hodge; special friends, Abbey Taylor, Tommy Meyer, and Kaleb Cates, Susan Stopinski; her kitty, Violet; and numerous other family members.

She was preceded in death by her dad, James Matson, who loved taking her to Disneyland, and her grandfather, Jerry Mapes.

A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2017 from 1-3 at the Faith Community Fellowship, 1427 Monte Vista Dr., Mt. Vernon, WA.  Her final resting place will be at Evergreen-Washelli Cemetery.  A time of visitation will be available on Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:00 to 5:00 at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.  Share your memories of Carrie and sign the online guest register

Hey Carrie. It’s been a privilege to take care of you for the past 32 years. Or maybe we took care of each other. Miss you lots. You were my sunshine girl and brought much joy into my life. See you soon. Love you, Mom.

  • Diane and Joe Segars

Carrie, we miss you so much already. Joe will miss his Uno partner and Out of the Ashes buddy and mall walker buddy. Even though we will miss you, we know you are no longer in pain and held back by your wheelchair-what freedom you will have now with JESUS!!
Nancy you have been a wonderful Mom and caregiver for Carrie-always putting her first, before your needs. She loved all of her family so much and you all helped make her life so happy despite her physical limitations. Blessings upon you all.

Carrie you are so loved by all of us. We know you are dancing in heaven with your dad, and not hurting anymore. You brought so much love and laughter to Abbey, she was always your best friend. It gave me such joy when you and Abbey would chat and laugh about everything you did together. Your gentle spirit also overflowed when you stayed with us and just loved our little Libbey dog. Take care of her in heaven. We will be thinking of you when every cloud blows by and when the sun shines on our faces. God loved you so much he took you to be with him and so we know you are safe and blessed. Forever loved. Kisses sent to heaven. Abbey Taylor Susan Milheim and Noelle Milheim

Until we see one another again know we are loving on your precious Mom Nancy…who has done a wonderful job making sure that you had great success in doing the things that mattered to you & loving you through ever part of your life. You & your family hold a very special place in my heart! May God bring peace, comfort & great joy to all of us as we remember our beautiful spunky redhead with a lovely contagious smile! ♡ Tami

Today is Father’s Day…we share mixed blessings…happy because we know Carrie can finally run into the open and waiting arms of her Dad. A Dad whose home was a shrine to his daughter. A Dad who sacrificed so his daughter could have it all. Anyone who knew James David Matson knows this to be true. All he ever wanted was to be with her and now they are together forever. Carrie gets to tell her Dad, Happy Father’s Day, I love you so much, thanks for taking such good care of me. Carrie and Jim, we miss you. Until we meet again, love you two.

My little Buttercup, I’ll miss face-timing with you about Once Upon a Time, Christmas, sleepovers, music and boys! (Paul always interrupted our girl talk!) But I know that you are in Good Hands with Jesus and your dad. Tell your dad I miss him (and that he is a Fathead)!

You were surrounded by so many people who loved you, Carrie-O. We will always remember your laugh, your smile, your singing and your love of family and friends. Can’t wait to see you again someday – run to meet us, ok? Or perhaps you’ll fly like a butterfly! We love you so much! ~~~ Love Paul, Ginny, Chelsea, Kate, David, Ashley, Luna and Harlie ~
