Clarence Edward Davis, 71, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2006 at the Life Care Center of Skagit Valley in Sedro-Woolley.
He was born on January 31, 1935 in Deport, Texas, one of eleven children of William Oscar & Clara Etta Mangus Davis.
Clarence was raised for a short time in Texas and Oklahoma until the family finally settled in Cottage Grove, Oregon where he was raised, worked and attended school.
In July of 1953 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict. While on leave in late summer of 1954 he met Georgia Bell at a state fair in Tennessee, and after a six week courtship they were married on October 21, 1954 in Hernando, Miss. Over the next 20 years in the Navy Clarence served his country on several vessels during the Korean and Viet Nam Conflicts. After his discharge in 1973 he served several years in the Fleet Reserves and served as a military policeman at N.A.S. Whidbey in Oak Harbor.
The family finally settled in Sedro-Woolley and Clarence worked as a boiler maker and pipe fitter for the refineries in Anacortes and Ferndale for several years, then as a building renovator and asbestos remover for Affordable Abatement until his retirement.
He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, camping and traveling. He also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 5056 in Concrete.
Clarence, a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years, Georgia, at the family home in Sedro-Woolley. His son, James Davis of Sedro-Woolley and 2 daughters and their husbands, Terri & Ken Fann of Anacortes and Kathy & Budd Moena of Sedro-Woolley. 6 grandchildren, Adrianna Davis, Amethyst Neider, Samantha Moena and William, J.R. and Kathi Fann. 5 brothers and their spouses, Larry & Nila Davis, Leon & Lily Davis and Willard, Wayne and Kenny Davis. 4 sisters and their spouses, Patricia and Floyd Jenkins, Mary Sue Nicholson, Etta & Wayne Stepp and Minnie Harker along with numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William & Clara and by a brother, Dan Davis. Memorials are suggested to Regional Hospital, 12844 Military Road, Tukwila, WA 98168. Attn: Jim Cannon.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery on Thursday, July 20, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. Arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
