CLARICE ‘CHRIS’ MAE BROWN, 76, a resident of Mount Vernon, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2005 at the Life Care Center of Skagit Valley in Sedro-Woolley.
She was born on December 6, 1929 in Devil’s Lake, North Dakota, the daughter of Clarence & Mae Hanson Christianson. Chris and her family moved to Everett in the early 1930’s where she was raised and attended school.
She attended the University of Washington and was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. It was at her sorority house that she met her husband, Willard ‘Joe’ Brown, Jr., and they were united in marriage on June 11, 1949 in Everett. They lived in Carnation during their first year of marriage, but because of Joe’s career in banking, they lived in several towns, including Monroe, Edmonds, Ephrata, Sedro-Woolley, Pullman and Camano Island. Upon retiring, they made their home in Anacortes. Following Joes’s death in 1999, Chris moved to Mount Vernon to be near her family.
Chris was an avid bridge player and looked forward to playing bridge each Wednesday with her bridge group. She also enjoyed her exercise class at the YMCA and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her warm and beautiful smile and the cheerful presence she brought to those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Joe.
She is survived by her 3 children, Martin Brown Diane, Cindy Lindquist Bernie and Tricia Van Dyk Kent. 6 grandchildren, Jennifer & Melissa Brown, Joe & Erik Lindquist, Andrea Feenstra and Kyle Van Dyk and 4 great-grandchildren, Dayton & Lexani Brown, Cameron Wilber and Hope Feenstra.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at 3:00 PM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 719 Ferry, Street Sedro-Woolley with Father Pat McDermott, Celebrant. A fellowship will follow services at the Parish Hall.
Memorials are suggested to the Arthritis Foundation or a charity of your choice.
