DAVID NELSON ALLAN, 92, a longtime Clear Lake area resident passed away at his home on Friday, March 3, 2006.
He was born on February 23, 1914 in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, the son of William & Mabel Fallow Allan. He was raised and attained his education in Nanton, Alberta, Canada.
In the early 1930’s he moved to British Columbia, Canada, where he worked as an auto mechanic in Kelona, B.C.
David was united in marriage to Marjorie Hyde in 1944 and they made their home in B.C. until coming to the United States in 1952, living in Renton, WA where David was a mechanic. He became a U.S. citizen in 1954. In 1958 he moved to Skagit County and worked as a mechanic in Anacortes. In 1961 he began working as a bus mechanic for the Mount Vernon School District, retiring in 1976 after 15 years of service.
On September 12, 1978 he was married to Mattie Pound in Sedro-Woolley and they have since made their home in Clear Lake.
David was a very versatile man; he was an accomplished pilot, mechanic, welder, designer, craftsman and musician. He played a variety of instruments and played in his first band, playing piano at age 14 with his siblings and was still playing piano for the Jolly Time Dance Club at Hillcrest Park. He built a gyrocopter, designed and built log splitters and racing lawnmowers. He also enjoyed playing bingo and traveling from Alaska to Missouri.
He was a longtime member of the Moose Lodge #1604 in Mount Vernon and of the Machinists Union.
He is survived by his wife, Mattie at the family home in Clear Lake. His son, Paul Allan of Foley, AL. 2 daughters, Julie Allen of Bellingham and Patty Trask of Oak Harbor. 6 grandchildren, Robert Allan Sandra, Michael Allan Kim, Laurie Marjerum, Katie Davidson Mike, Chris Noah and Joey Trask and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Stewart, Bill & Jack and a sister, Alberta.
A Life Celebration will be scheduled and announced at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
