David Sexton

Wednesday, September 24th, 2014

David Lewis Sexton, 85, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, closed his eyes on earth and opened them in heaven on September 20, 2014 at his home at Country Meadow Village.

David was born on March 25, 1929 in Sedro-Woolley, the son of Milo & Nada (Hall) Sexton. He attended Samish Elementary and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class of 1947. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1950 and served his country during the Korean Conflict until his discharge in November 1953.

He married Viola Rasmussen on June 18, 1955 in Silvana, Washington. They began their lives together as dairy farmers and also grew cabbage, beet seeds and beans.  They farmed in Bow and Alger, and then settled in Burlington where they lived for over 50 years. David loved horses and after his retirement from the NAS Whidbey commissary in 1992 he acquired a team of Belgians, but his greatest joy came from his family. He spent many happy times treating his adored daughters, then his grandchildren to fairs, carnivals and rodeos. Nothing was more important to him than family.

We, his daughters, owe a debt of gratitude to Country Meadow Village, their staff and Wellness caregivers for their infinite kindness and professionalism. He greatly enjoyed living amongst such a wonderful community of people; he truly felt at home. Dad particularly enjoyed ‘Men at Ten’, fishing trips, visiting with other residents, conservation tree planting expeditions, barbeques, honey buns … the list is long. We are eternally grateful.

We find ourselves again indebted to the wonderful Dr. Bruce Mathey and nursing staff at the North Puget Cancer Center for their compassionate care of our father as he struggled with leukemia. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in our father’s name to the North Puget Cancer Center at United General in Sedro-Woolley.

David is survived by his daughters, Peggy Tran of Everett, Patti Schneider (Tim) of Montesano and Gail Sexton of Seattle; two sisters, Sharon Bever of Sedro-Woolley and Mary Lambert of Mount Vernon; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, John; his wife Viola in 2012 and his brother-in-law, Bob Bever.

We thank Lemley Funeral Home for their thoughtful guidance.

Funeral services will be held at Lemley Chapel on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. followed by a Committal with Military Honors at Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery.  Share your memories of David and sign the online guest register at www.lemleychapel.com.   Over and out.

My deepest condolences to the family as you mourn David’s death and celebrate his life. We fondly chatted about his participation with “Men at Ten” this morning and will have special celebration with our lovely gift of Glenlivet you gave to the group.

I so appreciated David and his willingness to participate in just about every event, field trip and activity that we had on the calendar. He loved traveling on the bus and participating in all of the things that we did.

He was so kind, caring and polite always greeting everyone he passed in the hall.

Peace to you all. He and Viola left a great legacy. All of you.

To “the girls”: Thank you for the beautifully written memorial. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. You had truly remarkable parents and it shows in what amazing people you have become. May Dave rest in peace.
