Dennis Roy ‘Denny’ Bumgarner, 74, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away on Wednesday May 11, 2016 at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham, with his Carol at his side.
Denny was born in Sedro-Woolley on August 27, 1941, the son of Wid & Martha (Parker) Bumgarner. He was raised and attended school in Sedro-Woolley.
In October 1958 he enlisted into the U.S. Army where he served his country until 1962. After his discharge he returned to Skagit County where he worked as a log truck driver for three years. In 1965 he moved to Ketchikan, Alaska where he worked as a Police officer for the Ketchikan Police Dept. He married Sandi Bivens and from that union his children Dean & Shelie were born. In 1970 he married Carol Erickson and they resided in Ketchikan until 1980 when they moved to Snohomish and Denny worked as a safety officer for the Monroe State Reformatory. They moved to Sedro-Woolley in 1990 and Denny commuted to Monroe until his retirement in 2000.
Denny was a great musician, enjoyed hunting and fishing and telling a good joke to anyone who would listen. He was a longtime member of the Sedro-Woolley Eagles and American Legion clubs.

He was preceded by his parents, Wid & Martha.
The family requests that memorials in honor of Denny be made to a charity of your choice.
A Life Celebration Potluck Gathering will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 from 2 to 4 pm at the Sedro-Woolley Eagles. Bring stories and a joke to tell. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
