Donald Reed Weis, 77, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at Birchview Memory Care in Sedro-Woolley, WA.
He was born on November 27, 1928 the oldest son of Howard and May Disert Weis in Davenport, Iowa.
Don attended Catholic schools in Davenport and graduated from medical school at the University of Iowa College. In 1950 he married Nancy Leaf and during their 30 year marriage they raised 5 children in Lake Stevens. Being the first in his family to go ‘West of the Mississippi’, he did his internship in the U. S. Navy in Bremerton, WA during the Korean conflict. Don then moved his growing family to Tacoma, WA for his Anesthesia residency. He began his practice in 1959 in Everett with partner, Dr. Gene Mason.
Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating in the San Juan Islands and RVing in the Southwest with his wife, Dorothea.
He is survived by a son William Weis and his wife Connie of Granite Falls, WA and 4 daughters; Elizabeth Rogers of Mount Vernon, Susan Hanson and her husband Vern of Eden Prairie, MN, Patricia Erickson of Marysville, WA and Margaret Calhoun of Maltby, WA and his brother Richard Weis of Davenport, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; Harmony Forbes, Cori, Chad and Jeff Erickson, Sarah and Megan Hanson, Adam and Chelan Calhoun; 2 great-grandchildren; Jacob and Jessica Forbes. He will always be remembered for his love and appreciation of wildlife and the outdoors, as well as his willingness to share and entertain, whether by showing a novice how to filet a fish or ending an evening reciting a Robert W. Service poem.
Cremation arrangements are under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley, WA.
