Doris Griffina Long, 91, a former longtime Sedro-Woolley resident passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, Washington on Wednesday, November 14, 2007. Doris was born on June 21, 1916 in Sauk, Washington, the daughter of Elisha & Hattie Bronson Ellison.
She was raised and attended grade school in the Upper Skagit Valley and High School in Concrete. In 1947 Doris was united in marriage to Robert Long in Sedro-Woolley and for 46 years they made their home and raised their family there until his death in 1993. For the past 3 years she has resided in Puyallup.
Doris was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She was also devoted to her church family at the First Baptist Church in Sedro-Woolley, where she was a longtime member and active with the Ladies Missionary Fellowship and the Missionary Outreach programs. Doris enjoyed crocheting, painting, gardening, and crafts.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; 4 sisters, Effie Ellison, Sylvia Poldervart, Iva Galbrath and Florence Hockett, and her brother, Thomas Ellison.
She is survived by her children, Ken Long and his wife Laura of Puyallup, Naomi Long of Everett, Ruth Johnson and her husband Art of Bothell, Dorothy Wietz of Lynnwood and Becky Farwell and her husband Roger of Othello. A sister, Lorna Gustafson of Sedro-Woolley. 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials in memory of Doris are suggested to the First Baptist Church Missions or Awana Programs.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November, 21, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Richard Coursen officiating. Interment will follow at the Lyman Cemetery.
