Duncan E. MacAllister, 90, a former Stanwood community resident, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2006 at Home Place Special Care in Burlington.
He was born on June 2, 1916 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, the son of Arnold & Teresa Syres MacAllister.
He was raised and attended school in Grand Rapids and from there joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in the early 1930’s. In 1935 he moved to Marysville, WA and worked as a carpenter for the Howard Wright construction company in Seattle for several years.
During WW II he enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a turret gunner on a Mitchell B-25 bomber. He also spent time serving in India. After his discharge he again worked in construction in King County.
He later worked for the Columbia Ward Fish Co. of Seattle as an electrical and equipment maintenance engineer in Alaska for several years, retiring in 1980. Duncan had made his home in Stanwood since 1992 until recently moving to Skagit County.
He was a member of the 22nd Bomb Squadron Assoc. and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union.
He is survived by his brother, Bill MacAllister and his wife, Lilly of Acme and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Stanley R., Douglas A. and Alvin E. MacAllister and 2 sisters, Margaret Cook and Emma Wells.
Graveside Inurnment services will be held at the Green Hills Memorial Cemetery in Burlington on Thursday, September 7, 2006 at 2:00pm with Military Honors provided by the George Baldridge Post 43, American Legion. Services and cremation are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
