Effie E. Andersen, 91, a resident of Mount Vernon, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2008 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born on March 8, 1917 in Marblemount, Washington, one of eleven children of Jeremiah & Alma Brostrom La Fleur.
Effie was raised in Marblemount where she attended grade school until her family moved to Anacortes where she graduated from high school in 1934.
On May 9, 1935 she was united in marriage to Lyle Andersen and they made their home in Anacortes and Bellingham until moving to Sedro-Woolley in 1952 where Lyle operated Lyle’s Saw Shop for many years.
For several years Effie worked as a cook at Cascade Middle School in Sedro-Woolley. She was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed sewing and canning vegetables from her garden for family and friends and she also enjoyed camping and fishing and spending lazy summer days at Lake Conner with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Bradford of Mount Vernon; two sons, Ken Andersen and his wife, Diane of Lacey, WA and Rick Andersen and his wife, Patricia of Anacortes. Eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lyle; six brothers and four sisters.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 12, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Fernhill Cemetery near Anacortes with Rev. Jim Florence officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
