Eileen G. Exelby

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Eileen Exelby, 84, passed away after a beautiful sunrise on the morning of August 3, 2008. She was resting at home, surrounded by her three loving daughters.
Eileen was born on January 29, 1924 in Craig, Colorado to Samuel and Dora Beauchamp. She spent her youth in Republic, Washington where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Bob Buckner. They soon moved to Sedro-Woolley with their three daughters who fondly remember coming home on Wednesday, their mom’s day off to the amazing smells of homemade bread and caramelly cinnamon rolls.
Eileen was certified as an LPN in the late 1950’s and worked as a nurse at Northern State Hospital until it closed in 1973. She remarried on September 4, 1968 to Arthur Exelby. During their 32 wonderful years together, they traveled extensively, exploring 49 of the 50 states and snowbirding in Arizona.
After her retirement, Eileen ‘relaxed’ by square dancing, round dancing, tap dancing, hula dancing, synchronized swimming, bowling, golfing, gardening, crocheting, knitting, drawing, painting and creating stained glass. After all, why have one hobby when you can have 50′
Eileen had a lifelong love of the view of Mount Baker and spent many happy hours watching the water at March’s Point. In 2000, she also fulfilled a final promise to Arthur, visiting her 50th state, Alaska.
Eileen was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Exelby, a sister Amy Watkins, and a son-in-law Kenny Oster. She is survived by daughters, Roberta Oster, Sheryl Parker and her husband, Richard and Loretta Durham, as well as grandchildren, Joe Weyers, Steven Weyers and wife Shelly, Richie Parker and wife Maureen Parker, Michael Parker, Debra Durham, and Rissa Durham, and great-grandchildren, Christopher, U.S.N., Jason, a recent high school graduate and Jessie Weyers, a beautiful teenage girl. She was also treasured by her 105 year old aunt Mae Therrien and numerous extended family members including many loving and caring members of the Exelby family.
The family is extremely grateful for the support shown by the Ladies Dominoes Group at Little Mountain Estates, the Skip-O-Group, Bingo Group, Debbie, Jamie, and Theresa at Mountain Glen, Jeffrey at Denny’s, Tim and Christine from Skagit Hospice, and Dana and the chef at Fairhaven Café in Burlington—no salt, no salt, no salt!
At Eileen’s request, no memorial services will be held. Family and friends are encouraged to remember Eileen by reflecting on their own special memories. Memorials are suggested to Eileen’s love for animals, especially her beloved Mutccis, through a contribution to N.O.A.H. at www.thenoahcenter.org
