Tuesday, November 4th, 2014

Eldeen Simmons, 83, a resident of Burlington, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, November 4, 2014.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jim, and her children, Nate, Ted, Ann and their families.

Eldeen was a committed participant in her church, community groups, schools and local politics.  People would often see her walking in her neighborhood. She enjoyed traveling, beaches, hiking, bird watching, sewing and investing in children’s lives.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in honor of Eldeen be made to the North Puget Cancer Center, 2000 Hospital Drive, Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284, as they took such great care of her.

The Burlington Hill Cross will be lit in Eldeen’s honor from Wednesday, November 12 through Friday, November 14.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Monte Ruble of the Summit Park Bible Church officiating followed by a fellowship gathering at the Sedro-Woolley Community Center.  Private interment will be at Greenhills Memorial Cemetery in Burlington.

To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. To the family of Mrs. Simmons, condolences, and prayers. Peace be to you, and in time healing.

It has been over 20 years since Eldeen was a familiar part of life at meetings of the church where we once both attended and yet her obituary depicts her many endearing qualities of intelligence, determined spirit, and faithfulness to those people and ideals she held as trustworthy to the very end of her earthly life. Blessings to the family as you reconcile your great loss as you go on without her.

I am so sorry for your loss–I know how hard it is to say goodbye to your Mother. She was a long time “email buddy” of mine and we had political beliefs in common. I got to meet her once when she was in Michigan, and we went swimming and boaing in the lake where I live. She was a very intelligent woman with a kind heart. She fought her cancer so earnestly and fiercely. I know she will be missed.

Our prayers go out to the family of Eldeen. She was a dear friend whom we first met at Republican meetings and later when she attended our church. She had such a big heart and was so interested in everyone and their needs. We corresponded over email with forwards (hers were often very funny and witty) and updates on each others’ daily activities. She battled bravely as she went through her treatments and our hearts ached as we watched the steady decline of her physical body. Her spirits were mostly up throughout the ordeal. She is at home with her heavenly Father and we are glad she is out of her suffering. We look forward to seeing her again in glory.
