Eldred Clifford Loop, 97, a longtime Skagit County resident, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at the Burton Care Center in Burlington.
He was born on October 27, 1909 in Reardon, Washington, the oldest of six children of Clifford & Maggie McLean Loop.
When Eldred was five years old his family moved to Skagit County, and he attended school in Burlington.
At the age of 15 he began a long career of working in the woods as a tree faller, working for 37 years until a logging accident in 1962 took one of his legs. In the 1930’s and 40’s Eldred was a tireless participant in log bucking contests in Whatcom, Skagit & Snohomish counties, winning numerous events. He was a Sedro-Woolley Loggerodeo regular.
Eldred is survived by his sister, Fae Stromquist of Loma Linda, CA; his son, James Myrna Loop of Sedro-Woolley and his daughter, Gayle Don Hull of Lynden; step-children, John Sines of Sedro-Woolley and Andrea Smith of Yakima. 6 grandchildren, Richard Teresa Loop of Alger, Sharilyn Rick Matthews of Sedro-Woolley, Mendy Jim Bucy of Mukilteo, Marcie Keith O’Bryan of Clear Lake, Brian Tracy Hull of Lynden and Kristin Adam Elbrecht of Lynden. 6 great-grandchildren, Sean, Jay & Steven Bucy, Tegan & Ian O’Bryan and Katie Matthews along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Wendel, Thomas & Merle Loop, a sister, Ella Wilson and a son, Denny Loop.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 30, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Lemley Chapel with Pastor Gary Fogelquist of the North Cascade Seventh-day Adventist Church in Burlington officiating. Interment will be at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. The family suggest memorials be made to the Skagit Adventist School, 530 N Section St., Burlington, WA.
