Elenora Melton, 87, a longtime resident of the Lyman community passed away on Monday, April 10, 2006 at the Burton Care Center in Burlington, WA.
She was born on July 31, 1918 in Cowards, North Carolina, the daughter of Homes & Anna Belle Wood Parker.
She was raised and attended school in North Carolina.
Elenora was working at her aunt Nellie’s boarding house where she met her husband, Merritt and they were united in marriage in Jackson County in 1938.
They made their home in North Carolina until coming to Skagit County in 1943 and eventually settled in Lyman.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and home maker. She loved to quilt, can and was a very good cook. She was famous for her cakes, banana pudding and green beans.
Elenora is survived by her six children and their spouses, Ruie & Early Franks of Sedro-Woolley, WA, Sharon & Bob Garcia and Rhonda & Mike Garcia, all of Mount Vernon, WA, Mary Melton & Calvin Huscusson of Lyman, WA, Ray & Babe Melton of Punkin Center, WA and Roger Melton of Eatonville, WA. 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. 4 sisters-in-law, Arbie Armstrong and Willa Nell Stiles both of Waynesville, NC, Effie Whitner of Hickory, NC and Gertrude Cope of Burlington, WA and 1 brother-in-law, Furl Gates of Sylva, NC. Three half-sisters, two half-brothers and numerous nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 62 years, Merritt in 1998, a brother Jack Phillips, a sister Elsie Morgan, three half-brothers, one half-sister and several nieces and nephews.
Elenora’s family extends a heart felt thank you to the staff at Burton Care Center for their love and excellent care and to the residents there for their friendship. You were all like family. God bless each one of you.
The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of your choice.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 11:00 am at the Bethel Assembly of God Church in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Rik Morris officiating. Interment will be at the Lyman Cemetery followed by a potluck fellowship at the Lyman Town Hall. Services and arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
