Elsie M. Ross, 76, a longtime Concrete area resident, lost her courageous battle with cancer on Friday, June 22, 2007 in Mount Vernon.
Elsie was born on May 22, 1931 in New Orleans, Louisiana, the daughter of Harry & Elsie Cortez Herbert.
She was raised and attended school in New Orleans. After completing her education she moved to California and on November 6, 1954 she was united in marriage to Fred Rich. Fred preceded Elsie in death and she again found love with Don Ross, Sr., and they were married on October 22, 1983 in Concrete.
Elsie worked as a sales clerk for Falk’s in Boise, Idaho and also for the Emporium Department Store in both Mount Vernon & Burlington. After their retirement, Don and Elsie enjoyed traveling. Elsie also enjoyed loved and growing her flowers.
Elsie was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Mary Miller, a son, Alan Rich and a grandson, Chris Norton.
She is survived by her husband, Don Ross, Sr. at the family home in Lyman.
Her five daughters and their husbands, Sharon & Roger Bates, Karen & Harvey Peebles, Lisa & Brent Davis, Marguerite & Bernard Janes and Maria & Ed Karper. Her three sons and their wives, Charles & Joyce Ross, Donald & Debbie Ross Jr. and Tracy & Laura Handyside. Twelve grandchildren, Robert, Heidi, Ashley, Alan, Bruce, Megan, Katie, Rebecca, Dakota, Danielle, Levi and Trevor and two great-grandchildren, Lilly Ann and Lane.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at 1:00 PM at the Forest Park Cemetery in Concrete with Pastor Mark Stroud of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church officiating. A fellowship will follow services and the Lyman Town Hall. Memorials are suggested to the Skagit Valley Regional Cancer Care Center.
