Eula Marie Duncan, 98, a longtime Skagit County resident, passed away at her home in Burlington on Friday, April 25, 2008.
She was born on May 14, 1909 in Dollarville, Michigan, the daughter of Frank & Clara Carlson Goodyear.
Eula moved to the Eutopia area east of Sedro-Woolley with her family in 1912
and there was raised and attended grade school. She graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1927 and then attended and graduated from Cheney State College with a teaching degree.
Eula taught school for several years until she was united in marriage to John C. ‘Pete’ Duncan in Idaho on March 21, 1936.
They made their home in Sedro-Woolley and in 1937 their daughter Darlene was born and Eula’s primary focus was to her family, being a devoted wife and mother. She also worked at the family lumber mill, Goodyear Nelson, for several years.
With her family Eula enjoyed traveling the country in their RV, and she was quite an accomplished hunter and fisherman.
Eula was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Pete in 1979; daughter, Darlene in 2007; her sister and brother-in-law, Frances & Chester DeWitt and nephews, Gary & Bill DeWitt.
She is survived by 2 nieces, Molly Sackman and her husband, LeRoy of Burlington and Jean DeWitt of Sedro-Woolley. 5 great-nieces and their husbands, Melanie & Ralph Leaning of Tacoma, Candy & Dale Taylor of Moses Lake and Julie & Rick Tingley, Kristin Nelson and Stacy Dean all of Sedro-Woolley. 1 great-nephew Steven DeWitt of Sedro-Woolley and numerous great-great-nieces and nephews.
A Life Celebration gathering will be held at Eula’s home at the Creekside Retirement Community, 413 Alissa Lane in Burlington on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 1:00 PM.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
