Florence J. Adkerson

Friday, September 1st, 2017

Our loving mother, Florence J. Adkerson, entered into heaven on Friday, August 25, 2017, while surrounded by her family.  Florence was born on July 2, 1928, in Husum, Washington, the eighth child of Roston and Gertrude Welch.

She loved music, was a talented musician and could play several instruments.  She shared her music in church services, in prisons, and also traveled across the country playing piano and accordion for a friend who held church services in many places. She met and fell in love with her future husband, J.C., in Sayre, Oklahoma, while traveling. He soon followed her back to Portland, Oregon, where they were married on February 21, 1948. They enjoyed 67 years together before J.C. passed away in 2015.

Florence’s family was the light of her life and she loved having them come to visit. Florence was a wonderful cook and she had the gift of being a true homemaker, always making everyone comfortable.  She had a generous, caring heart, and loved her family and friends.

She is survived by her three children, Larry (Terry) Adkerson of Sedro-Woolley, Judy (Rick) Kiesser of Anacortes, and Don (Jan) Adkerson of Sedro-Woolley; grandchildren, Corey Kiesser, Traci Kiesser, Kerra Irwin, Guyle Adkerson, D.J. Adkerson, Amanda Linde and Donnie Adkerson; 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband J.C.; her parents; two brothers and five sisters.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Bow Cemetery, 15946 Bow Cemetery Road, Bow, WA.  A time of visitation will be available at Lemley Chapel on Friday, September 8th from 1 to 6 pm. All are invited to a Celebration of Life fellowship immediately following the service at the Samish Valley Grange, 4320 Hwy 9, Sedro-Woolley, WA.
