Floyd Harry Allen

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Floyd H. Allen, age 71, a Burlington resident since 1980, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2008 at the Burton Care Center in Burlington, Washington. He was born April 19, 1937 in Sedro-Woolley, Washington the son of Dutee and Doris Dreyer Allen.
Floyd grew up in Sedro-Woolley where he attended school and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1955.
Floyd was united in marriage to Lorene Ashley in Sedro-Woolley in 1955 and they have celebrated 53 years together.
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1956 to 1960 as a mechanic working on KC 97 and C 119 airplanes.
Floyd worked as a mechanic and a truck driver for many years, but he will be remembered as a ‘jack of all trades’ for his ability to fix it, if you broke it.
He was a member and past president of the Concerned Citizens for United General Hospital and was their strongest advocate.
For several years in the 1960’s, Floyd drove a race car at Skagit Speedway, always winning enough money to pay for car repairs. The car he drove was the first automatic transmission that worked at the track. His car number was 22, and thru his life, 22 was his lucky number.
Floyd was also a past president of the Puget Sound Antique Tractor and Machinery Association; was a member of the Cascade Two Cylinder Club and the Early Day Tractor and Gas Engine Association, and he was proud of his John Deere Tractor. He was also a life member of the National Rifle Association and a member of the Sedro-Woolley Museum, and the Skagit County Retired Senior Volunteer Program, but most of all he liked to help people and wanted to do things the right way.
He is survived by his wife, Lorene Allen of Burlington. His son, Mike Allen of Arlington, Texas. His daughter, Cindy Allen of Burlington and two grandchildren, Christopher and Tiffany Stier. His mother, Doris Allen of Sedro-Woolley and his sister, Eileen Beitler and her husband, John of Burlington. Five brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and a daughter, Deborah Jean Allen.
Funeral Services with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2008 at 10:30AM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with Mr. Don Sorenson officiating. Cremation will follow the services with inurnment at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the United General Hospital Foundation.
