Frances LaVerne Miller, age 85, passed away Monday, January 9, 2006 at the United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley.
She was born January 26, 1920 in Lyman, WA, the daughter of Harry and Maude Welch Miller.
Frances grew up in the Lyman and Sedro-Woolley attending school and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class of 1938.
She was united in marriage to Howard Miller on April 4, 1942 in Tacoma, WA and he preceded her in death in 2000.
Frances worked as a secretary for Skagit Steel for many years until becoming the first secretary for the Chamber of Commerce and the Loggerodeo for many years. She was a life member of Soroptimist International, Beta Sigma Phi, Eastern Star, Emblem Club, Daughters of the Nile, Republican Women, board member for Job Corps, and a long time member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church. She actively attended the Sedro-Woolley Community Church for the past two years.
Frances was twice awarded Women of the Year for Soroptimist, Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, Paul Harris Award from Rotary International, the Liberty Bell Award, and Law Day Award from the attorney’s in Skagit County.
She enjoyed traveling, camping, volunteering at the Food Bank and United General Hospital Gift Bar and being involved with her community.
Frances is survived by her daughters, Candace LaMont and her husband Fred of Woodinville and Tamara Ensley of Sedro-Woolley. 4 grandchildren, Scott LaMont of Lynnwood, Lindsey LaMont of Woodinville, Tahnee Crawford, and Tyanna Ensley of Sedro-Woolley, and 3 great-grandchildren, Daniel Estes, Alden Crawford, and J’den Price. Her sister, Joyce Holt of Burlington and brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, Marlin and Jessie Miller of Sedro-Woolley. Also numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins and her dear friend for over 60 years, Edith Allen of Sedro-Woolley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Howard, her sister and brother-in-law, Geneva and George Hansen, brothers, Claude Martin and Frank Elmore, son-in-law, Frank Ensley, and brother-in-law, Jack Holt.
Graveside Services will be Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 11:00 AM at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery with Pastor Joseph Miller of the Sedro-Woolley Community Church officiating. A Memorial Service will follow at 1:00 PM at Trinity United Presbyterian Church on Collins Rd with Pastor Wendy Tingley officiating.
Because of Frances’ involvement in her community, Memorials are suggested to a local charity of your choice.
