Gary W. Browning

Saturday, November 7th, 2015

Gary Wayne Browning, 62, a lifelong Skagit County resident, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2015 in Mount Vernon.

Gary was born on May 4, 1953 in Sedro-Woolley, the son of Carl & Christine                          (McDaniels) Browning.  He was raised and attended school in the Sedro-Woolley area.

Gary was an artist in the best sense of the word. He volunteered at multiple music, theatre and concert venues up and down the I-5 corridor, including the Everett Performing Arts Center, Olympic Ballet, the Bellingham Theatre Guild, Mount Baker Theatre, the Upfront, the SPARK Museum of Electrical Invention, Lincoln Theatre and the Muse to mention a few. Gary manned a number of radio shows over the years and was well known for his encyclopedic knowledge of classic rock, jazz, rhythm and blues, NW Grunge rock and other genres. Gary met numerous music icons (David Gilmour, Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl, Tony Bennett, Alan Paul, B.B. King and many others) through interviewing and video filming opportunities. He had amazing, funny and insightful stories to tell about each person he came in contact with.

Gary would occasionally use the phrase “that’s really beautiful” to describe observed moments of kindness or charm or sensitivity. He had a thoughtful, poetic, and wildly individual personality. He was unique.

Gary is survived by his father, Carl Browning of Clear Lake, and three siblings, Fred, Debra & Teresa. He was preceded in death by his mother, Christine Browning. Gary will be in our memories always.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, November 13, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Greenhills Cemetery in Burlington. Arrangements are under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley. Donations can be made in Gary’s name to the SPARK Museum http://www.sparkmuseum.org/support-membership/membership/ or the Conway Muse http://conwaymuse.com/about-the-muse/contact-us/

I remember Gary from school. I did not know him well but I remember him always being friendly and kind. He is a good person. I wish comfort and peace for his family. After my sister passed on I have felt many times that she is still close.
