Gertrude Cope, age 96, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2006 at the Burton Care Center in Burlington, Washington.
She was born October 16, 1910 in Sylva, North Carolina, the daughter of John and Arlecia Hooper Melton.
Gertrude was raised and attended school in Sylva. In 1931 she was united in marriage to James Cope in Georgia and they made their home in Sylva until 1945 when they moved to Lyman, residing there until 1952 when they moved to Eureka, CA, returning to Lyman in 1965. James preceded Gertrude in death in June of 1977.
Gertrude enjoyed gardening, flowers, canning, quilting, crocheting, and reading.
She is survived by her daughter, Arlecia Jo Moffet of Sedro-Woolley. 2 grandchildren, Tracie Burnett of Lyman and Larry Moffet of Odessa, WA. 6 great-grandchildren, Brandon, Eric and Danielle Burnett and Adrian, Charli Jo and Ryan Moffet, and 2 great-great grandchildren, Chayce Hailey Anderson and Payton Mata. 2 sisters, Willnell Stiles and Arbie Armstrong of Waynesville, NC and 1 sister-in-law, Gertrude Cope of Darrington. Also numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, Paul, Mark and Merritt Melton and 2 sisters, Carrie Gates and Effie Whitener.
Gertrude’s family wish to thank the staff at Burton Care Center and Dr. Michael Dillard and his staff for their wonderful care for Gertrude.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 24, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Billy Farrar of Grace Church in Sedro-Woolley officiating.
Interment will follow at the Lyman Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Lyman Cemetery or United General Hospital.
