Granville M. ‘Grant’ Robbins, Sr., 74, a longtime Sedro-Woolley area resident passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at the Life Care Center of Skagit Valley in Sedro-Woolley.
Grant was born on January 9, 1933 in Avery County, North Carolina, one of twelve children of Robert & Margaret Pritchard Robbins. He was raised and attended school in Avery County.
In 1952 he enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served as a gunners mate during the Korean Conflict.
After his discharge in 1956 Grant moved to and made his home in Rockport, Washington. He was also united in marriage to Annette Tingley and they made their home in Rockport and Grant worked as a logger. In 1965 they moved to California where Grant worked in the oil fields. They returned to Skagit County in 1972 and Grant worked for Skagit Steel as an assemblyman until an injury forced his retirement in 1982. Grant was a member of the V.F.W. in Concrete and enjoyed guns, hunting and target shooting. He also helped his son build a few cars and win a few races at Skagit Speedway.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Annette at the family home in Sedro-Woolley. His children, Grant M. Robbins, Jr. and his wife Debbie of Concrete, WA, Blanche Ellis and her husband Dan of Clear Lake, WA and Diane Bray of Sedro-Woolley. 5 grandchildren, Tina, Shane & Josh Robbins and Charlie & Sam Bray, and 2 great-grandchildren, Brandon & Alyssa Roberts. 3 sisters, Florence Evans, Elizabeth Hartley and Ann Calhoun and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and 2 sisters.
At his request there will be no funeral services. Private inurnment will be at the Lyman Cemetery. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
