Harold William Donnelly

HAROLD W. ‘SWEDE’ DONNELLY

Dad was born February 12, 1919 in Parkersburg, Iowa. At an early age his family moved to Fall City, Washington, where his mother, Hulda Barfuse Donnelly married Charles Hanson.
Harold graduated from Fall City High School and worked on the family farm until he enlisted in the Army in 1943. He served with the 101st Airborne in the Aleutian Islands and finished his tour of duty in Germany.
He married Virginia Barker on September 19, 1947 and the enjoyed 56 happy years of marriage.
Harold and Virginia made their first home in North Bend, where he went to work for Puget Power at Snoqualmie Falls. In 1959 the family moved to Concrete where he continued his career as power plant operator at Upper Baker Dam until he retired in 1984. During retirement, Harold enjoyed gardening, fishing, and taking trips to visit family. Mom and Dad spent their last years together at Logan Creek Retirement Home in Mount Vernon, Washington.
Survivors include wife, Virginia of Mount Vernon; brother, Garin ‘Doc’ Donnelly of Issaquah; son, Mike Donnelly with wife Linda Martiny of Birdsview, Washington; daughter, Sharon Muth of California; and five grandsons and families: Gilman Christine Martiny of Charlestown, MA, Thomas Natalie Muth of Lancaster, CA, Matt Lea Muth of Palmdale, CA, Gene Heather Muth of Newhall, CA, and Jeff Tarsila Muth of Guam. Extended family includes four sisters-in-law: Joyce Levacy, Leora Barbeau, Coral Allbee, and Carmel Barker, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition, Swede enjoyed the privilege of having 10 great-grandchildren.
At Dad’s request, there will be no funeral. Cremation under direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley, Washington. A reception will be held on Sunday, November 2nd at 2:00 p.m., at Logan Creek Retirement, 2311 E. Division Street, Mount Vernon 360-428-0222.
