Iola Wilson, age 74, a member of the Upper Skagit Indian Tribe, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2007 at the Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, WA.
She was born October 3, 1932 in Rockport, WA, the daughter of Sandy and Lottie Marie Tom Lyle.
Iola grew up in the Rockport area and was married to her first husband, Everest ‘Pete’ Cheer, Sr.
Later, she married Tommy Wilson where they traveled from Washington to Florida following the crops working as a field worker. She later resided in Orange County, CA for many years working as a waitress and later as a mechanic assisting her husband, Tommy Wilson in operating their auto repair business as well as later operating a second hand store. Iola has resided in Sedro-Woolley since 1985 where she was a member of the Shaker Church and traveled with the Upper Skagit Tribal Elders to various events for many years.
She is survived by her two grandchildren, Jackie Lynn Cheer and her children, Reese and Analysa Meloche of Everett and Cecilia Jackson and her children, Sadie, Sable, Dusty, Gary, Alexis, and Junior of La Push, WA. Three sisters, Violet Lyle Fernando of Sedro-Woolley, Wanda Wilson Pressley of Seattle, and Josephine Wilson Meyers of Edmonds; One brother, George Moses, Jr. of Tacoma and numerous nieces and nephews.
Iola was preceded in death by her parents, Sandy Lyle and Lottie Marie Tom-Sam, her husbands, Everest Cheer, Sr. and Tommy Wilson; her children, Everest Pete ‘Jackson’ Cheer, Jr. and Albert Allan Cheer; her step-father, Walter Sam, and brothers and sisters, Lillian, James, Willis, and Laura Lyle.
Prayer Services will be on Friday, January 5, 2007 at 7:00PM with a Funeral Service to follow on Saturday January 6, 2007 at 10:00AM at the Upper Skagit Indian Tribal Gymnasium near Sedro-Woolley. Interment will follow at the Hamilton Indian Cemetery. Arrangements and services under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
