Jakie Boudreau

Jakie Boudreau, age 70, passed away on July 17, 2016 from her final battle with cancer.  Hers was an amazing life which ended peacefully surrounded by family.

She was born in Geddes, South Dakota on April 11, 1946, the fifth child of Jacob and June Stotz.

Jakie lived through times where scarcity and economic hardship formed much of her thinking.  Not one to complain or give up, Jakie shined as an example of what can be accomplished by rolling up your sleeves and getting to it.  Her motivations were simple; a fierce commitment to caring for family and friends. Her life teaches us about the value of faith, character, loyalty, and the power of a positive attitude.  Rarely have we known a person who lived so selflessly and worked so hard, for so long, simply to make things better for others. Demands of life prohibited Jakie from graduating from high school, but she finally went back and got her GED in her 60’s. She hated leaving something undone and she was proud of this.

Her life travels placed her in South Dakota, New Mexico, Idaho, and Washington states, where she had numerous vocations, from store clerk, bartender and lounge manager in Kellogg, ID, to millworker and truck driver for the Georgia Pacific Co., and medication delivery driver for Custom RX in Bellingham, WA.

Growing up in a family of blue collar workers, Jakie understood that families need each other more than ever. For her, family and faith in God were the panacea that kept her strong.  Jakie also loved music; whether singing hymns with her church family at Assumption Catholic Church in Bellingham, or playing the piano or accordion in her younger years.  Although raising six boys left little time to develop an extended repertoire, she delighted in dusting off the keys and letting fly a few honky-tonk tunes she taught herself as a youngster. These times will be remembered fondly. One of her final musical aspirations shared with family at her bedside — a chance to sing with a choir of angels.

Jakie enjoyed her ministry work through her church and delighted in any opportunity to visit, laugh, and encourage others.  Her smile was heartwarming, and her Christmas outreach with husband, Dale, as Mr. and Mrs. Santa Clause will be fondly remembered.  Her selfless acts of kindness were common fare – even to the point of ministering to and touching the lives of those who were providing her care in the hospital and at home.

While living in Kellogg, Idaho Jakie raised six boys and they each share the same deep family bond and live close in each other’s hearts as their mother would have wished.  We miss our mother and pray for the repose of her soul. We know that the Lord has taken her and are comforted that His choir of angels will hear one of the most loving of voices.

She is survived by husband, Dale Boudreau; 5 sisters,  Barbara Marvin of Midvale, ID, Joyce Henry and husband Harvey of Bellingham, WA, Janice Knittel of Clarkston, WA, Judy Lewis and husband Jim of Lewiston, ID and Diane Tedder and husband Jim of Clarkston, WA; 3 brothers, Joseph Marvin and wife Linda of Vancouver, WA, Charles Marvin and wife Kathi of Weiser, ID, and Paul Marvin and wife Cathy of Council, ID; 6 sons, Reed Gillig and wife Jodel of Ferndale, WA, Ron Gillig of Blaine, WA, Joe Gillig and wife Michelle of Boston, MA, Robin Gillig and wife Taryn of Alger, WA, Ray Gillig of Bellingham, WA, and David Tarter of Bellingham, WA. 3 step-children, Annette Arp and husband, Dan of Sedro-Woolley, WA, Lori Boe and husband Jeff of Mountlake Terrace, WA, and David Boudreau and wife, Heather of Lyman, WA; 22 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and June Stotz; sister, Jeanette Carnes; nieces, Toni Tedder and Vernita Marvin; and nephews, Richard and Ronald Carnes.

The Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 5:00 PM followed by a Funeral Mass on Wednesday, August 10th at 10:30 AM at Assumption Catholic Church in Bellingham. A reception will immediately follow the services, after which a graveside committal service will be held at Hawthorne Memorial Park in Mount Vernon at 2:00 PM.  Memorials in Jakie’s honor are suggested to the Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund, c/o Dale Boudreau, 1238 Toledo Street, Bellingham, WA  98229.  Visitation is available at, and services under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.

I remember Jakie for her constant faith in visiting my husband’s Aunt Marie. Jakie is one of the few people Marie recognized in her last days, even though their friendship only was over a period of 4-5 years. What a friend!

Jakie was the most inspiring person I have ever been around. So positive even when she was sick. I will miss going to lunch with her along with sister Joyce and friend Dorothy. Sometimes those lunches would last for 2-3 hours. I’m so glad I had those times and others with her. There was no way this girl would be negative about the things in her life. Please GOD, take care of her now. She is in your hands.
