James E. ‘Jim’ Fox, 65, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2008 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born on September 1, 1942 in Sylva, North Carolina, the son of Ernest Victor & Merle L. Ammons Fox.
In 1944 the family moved to Skagit County where Jim was raised and attended school.
In 1965 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and after his basic training at Fort Bragg he was stationed in Vietnam until his discharge in 1967.
Jim made his home in the Skagit Valley and in March of 1968 he was married to Sandra Stewart in Sedro-Woolley and they made their home in Snoqualmie where Jim was a heavy equipment mechanic for Weyerhauser. In 1977 he returned to Sedro-Woolley where he married Estella Frisbee on August 29, 1980.
Jim worked for both the Bendix Corporation and then the Goodyear Nelson Lumber Company in Sedro-Woolley as a mechanic and millwright for several years until his retirement in 1988.
Jim was an avid fisherman and loved going triploid fishing at Rufus Woods in eastern Washington. He also enjoyed hunting and was a shade tree mechanic, always tinkering on someone’s car. He was a longtime and active member of the Sedro-Woolley Community Church and a member of the American Legion and the Wildcat Steelhead Club.
Jim is survived by his wife, Estella at the family home in Sedro-Woolley. His son, Ronald Fox of Port Hadlock, WA. Two step-sons, Mark Wake and Kerry Wake of Sedro-Woolley, WA and a step-daughter, Lori Hargrove of Birdsview, WA. Four brothers, Mike Fox and wife Daisey of Sedro-Woolley, Vic Fox and wife Kathi of St. Maries, Idaho, Larry Fox and wife Monica of Hamilton, WA and Kenny Fox of Snohomish, WA. Three sisters, Pauline Coward Russell of Birdsview, Shirley Hotts Larry in Arizona and Ruby Elliott of Snohomish. Six grandchildren, Alicia, Andy, Dylan, Rachell, Ashton and Estella Rae Peanut, one great-granddaughter, Madisyn and numerous extended family members living in North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Kathy Anderson and Erna Mae Wishard.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Joe Miller of the Sedro-Woolley Community Church officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at the Hamilton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Lemley Chapel to help with funeral expenses.
