James E. ‘Jim’ White

Monday, December 26th, 2016

James E. ‘Jim’ White, 75, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away at his home on Monday, December 26, 2016.

Jim was born on December 8, 1941 in Madison, Missouri, the son of Cecil & Thelma (Brown) White.  He was raised and attained his education in Moberly, MO.

In 1960 Jim enlisted into the U.S. Navy, where he faithfully served his country for eight years.  He was stationed at several naval ports over the years, and it was while he was stationed at NAS Whidbey Island that he met the love of his life, Karen Hoffman from Sedro-Woolley; they were united in marriage on September 2, 1962 in Madison, MO.  Following his honorable discharge from his final port in Florida, they moved to Sedro-Woolley in 1968.

Jim soon after began working at the Texaco Oil Refinery, holding several positions until becoming a project planner, a position he held for many years until his retirement in 1996.

Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, RVing, riding his motorcycle and traveling in general.  He also enjoyed watching western movies and listening to Elvis Presley music.

Jim was a great host to the many friends who frequently visited his home.  He enjoyed conversations with them and looked forward to hosting barbecues and other social gatherings when an occasion called for it.   Jim was also actively involved in the local American Legion for many years and worked diligently to help other military veterans receive benefits and the medical care that they were entitled to.  This also included major fundraising to purchase a van for use in transporting vets to medical appointments out of town.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Kim White, and son, Jeff Sather, both of Wenatchee; two granddaughters, Danielle Duncan and Jacylyn Flones; three great-grandchildren, Mason Stallings, Emersyn Duncan and June Parsons and several nieces, nephews and extended family.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen White, and his son, James Woodson (Woody) White.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley.  Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Sedro-Woolley American Legion.

Kim, Jimmie was like a brother to me when we grew up in Madison. I lived across the street from your great grandparents and then your grandma Thelma and I loved them all. Jimmie and Karen always came to see me when they were here and ate at my house several times. I have a lot more pictures of your dad and me and several others. I have not talked to him for quite awhile. Our birthdays were one day apart and we always talked then and in between. I loved him like a brother and I knew things were not good for him for the last couple of years. It has been years since I have seen you and you were small. I am so sorry.

Oh the memories of this great man – where would I even begin? I have so many warm memories of the wonderful things he did for me; I still have the cradle he made for me and one for Kim too. I had not seen him in years so Kim walked me up to him at Woody’s funeral and asked him if he knew who I was….he looked me over for a little bit and said “Jelly Bean!”….I hadn’t heard that since I was a little girl – it makes me smile just thinking about it. Kim and Jeff, I have always thought of you all as family – we go years without seeing each other but you know I love you. My heart goes out to you both. I’ll see you Friday….
