Joan Marie Johnson peacefully passed away with an Angel by Her side at her home in Concrete, Washington on January 11, 2017 at 2:46 am.  The whole family would like to thank the people at the Hospice Organization for all their true dedication & very hard work, & for making Joanie’s passing comfortable & peaceful…Thank You!

Joanie was born on September 18, 1955 in Avoca, Pennsylvania to James and Grace Johnson.  Joanie was the 5th child of 10 in the family.  Joanie graduated from Pittston Area High School on June 14, 1974.  After graduation, Joanie became a Catholic Nun for about 5 years.  She lived in the Las Vegas area for about five years and then moved to Skagit County in the 1980’s.  She was married and has a daughter Tara, and son Brian.  After her marriage, she worked in the Food Industry as a Manager & waitress.  She also was a very happy homemaker!

In 2002, she met Breon Williams at the Sweetwater Restaurant and have been together since.  They bought the Concrete Theater in 2005 and learned the history of Concrete while owners.  Joanie created & started the annual Concrete Ghostwalk in 2006 after they found out the theater was #4 on the Washington State Haunted Places.  She had a lot of fun, as Paranormal Investigators (Ghostbuster) visited as much as possible, which twice got the theater on the Skagit Valley Herald front page back in 2007.  She was the Concrete Eagles Auxiliary President for 2 years & was active in fund raising for the local school & Muscular Dystrophy.

Joanie’s favorite pastime was caring for and working in her yard, which she always got compliments.  When out in the yard, people & friends would honk as they drove by & give her a thumbs up.  Afterwards, she & Breon would just sit on the front & rear porches & enjoy the full view of Sauk Mountain after the sun is setting on the mountain. She liked going to casinos & playing the slot machines, which she did pretty good.  Joanie also loved going to the Mount Baker Blues Festival because she met so many different types of people & ages along with the good music & food.  Three years ago she met a special acquaintance whose booth made hats for people going through radiation & chemotherapy; Joanie had just lost her hair a week earlier.  They prayed together & then she knitted Joanie a hat right within a couple hours.

Joanie is survived by her loving Domestic Partner, Breon Williams; two loving children, Tara and husband, Edgar Ortiz, and Brian and wife, Jessica May; grandchildren, Jalen & Jessica May, and Jennifer, Jace, Logan, Andrew, & Benjamin May; sisters, Judy and her husband, Peter Borkowski, Grace Johnson, Patty and her husband, Gregory Mehalchick, Becky and her husband, Gene Bryer; brother, Robert Johnson; many nieces and nephews that Joanie was close to & loved very much!  Her best friends, Alisa Ets, Donna Goff, Lori Bertapelli, & Judy McMurrin were always there when Joanie was feeling down & needed to talk to a friend.  levitra 20mg coupons Joanie was very close & they are going to miss her very much.

Joanie loved her dog, Angel & cat, Twitter.  Angel was by her side when Joanie passed away.

Joanie’s Memorial Service will be at 1:00, Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Lemley Chapel.  After the Memorial, family & friends are driving to the gravesite in Concrete.  All are Welcome!
