John F. Rowland, age 82, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2008 at the Clayton House Adult Care in Sedro-Woolley, Washington.
He was born June 16, 1926 in Sedro-Woolley to Fred and Rose Berry Rowland.
John was a lifetime resident of Sedro-Woolley where he attended school and enlisted in the US Navy during WWII serving in the Pacific until his discharge in 1946. He returned home and worked in the woods driving a logging truck until 1959. John then began his career as a foreman for the City of Sedro-Woolley operating the waste water treatment plant till his retirement in 1982.
During his younger years he loved to pheasant hunt in Eastern Washington and he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. John was a member of George Baldridge Post #43 American Legion and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
John is survived by his three children; Gary Rowland and his wife Shannon of Selah, WA, Lori Skiles of Sedro-Woolley and Brian Rowland of Stanwood. 10 grandchildren; Kiley Rowland, Nicole Walsh, Ashley Skiles, Kelsey, Whitney, and Haley Rowland, Mark Nielsen, Robb Nielsen, Josh Abken, Michael Abken, and a great grandson, Dyland Walsh.
His longtime companion Hazel Huff of Sedro-Woolley and her children; Debbie Hoover of Sedro-Woolley, Diane Harris and her husband Richard of Clear Lake, Darla Torset of Sedro-Woolley, Dean Knight and his wife Dawn of Lyman, Dennis Huff and his wife Kathy of Anacortes and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. His sister; Cleo Johnson of Sedro-Woolley and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, George Clark and a sister, Lois Extine.
The family would like to give a special ‘thank you’ to Clayton House for the care given to John.
Funeral Services will be Friday, October 24, 2008 at 1:00PM at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley with Pastor James Cannon of the Bethel Assembly of God Church officiating. Interment will follow with military honors by George Baldridge Post #43 and Washington Army National Guard Honor Guard of Bellingham at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. A reception will follow the services at the American Legion Hall.
Visitation will be available at Lemley Chapel on Wednesday and Thursday from 9AM to 5PM. Memorials are suggested to George Baldridge Post #43 American Legion or Alzheimer’s Association, 12721 30th Ave NE #101 Seattle, WA 98125, or Clayton House, 1231 Warner St., Sedro-Woolley.
