Joshua Alexander Soren

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

Joshua Alexander Soren, a resident of Burlington, passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2010 after a tragic accident while wading in the Skagit River. He was just 13 years of age.

He was born on October 31, 1996 in Burien, Washington, the son of Richard Soren & Haley Huscusson.

Josh was raised in Sedro-Woolley where he attended school at Central Grade School, excelling in his studies, especially reading.  The family later moved to Burlington where he attended Lucille Umbarger Grade School.

Family & friends alike remember him as a charismatic teen who was always the life of the party & could make friends with anyone, and he had many friends.  Parents of these friends often commented on how Josh was such a polite young man and showed everyone respect.

He enjoyed skateboarding, acrobatics and just hangin’ around with his best buddy Luke Pettis and his friends.

He was quick with a smile and a laugh.  He will be missed by all.

Josh is survived by his mother, Haley Huscusson and step-dad, Robert Valencia of Burlington.  His father, Richard Soren, Jr. of Mount Vernon.  His brother, Michael Euteneier of Burlington.  3 step-brothers, Robert, Kyle & Dwight Valencia of Burlington and a step-sister, Vanessa Magdaleno (Luis) in California.  Paternal grandmother, Toni Getsinger (Jack) of Yakima, WA and paternal grandfather, Richard Soren, Sr. (Sharon) of Lyman.  Also numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family & friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Jean Palmer and step-grandfather, Ron Palmer and his maternal grandfather, Dallas Huscusson and step-grandmother, Shirley Huscusson.

In honor of Josh the family request memorials be made to the Joshua Soren Memorial Fund c/o any branch of Bank of America, Skagit County Search & Rescue or the American Red Cross.

A Life Celebration BB-Q gathering will be held on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 3:00 pm at Maiben Park in Burlington.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.

Please accept my sincere condolence for your loss. To lose a son at such a young age surely adds to the pain of death. Psalms 56:8 says, “Do put my tears in your skin bottle. Are they not in your book?” Yes, God is aware of the tears and pain you are experiencing. He will soon do what is said at Acts 24:15 “there is going to be a resurrection”. Look forward to the resurrection of your son and at a time when you will see him again. May you find hope in that promise. Take comfort in each other and in your cherished memories.

To the loving family and friends of Joshua Soren:
I send all of my hope and prayers to all of those who lost such a great young man, I did not know Joshua personally as I am 34 yrs. of age but I can assure you that if he and I had ever grown up together we would’ve been good friends he was a spark from all that I have read about him…I lost my good friend Jake Pfluger in the same way on the un-forgiving Skagit River in April of 2007 Jake was a man who would give you everything of himself just to see you smile he was only 20 yrs old.
I witnessed the pain and suffering of his mother Lori and his Father Dan as they had hopes of at least seeing him again….sadly Jake was never recovered from the cold depths of the Skagit…I am thankful that Joshua was found and hopefully some peace will be brought to your hearts as the years heal you I am in very deep sorrow for your loss Joshua was so very young and deserved to grow old and bring so many more smiles to your faces…please have peace in your hearts knowing that God has Joshua and Jake in his ever loving arms God bless to all of Joshua’s friends and family….
Jesus said in Mathew 5: 4 and 8 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”….”Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”
    …….Sincerely- Jason H. Self
