June G. Wedmore, 91, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at the Life Care Center of Mount Vernon.
She was born in Lyman, Washington, on June 4, 1915, the daughter of E.T. & Fannie Duvall Davenport. She was raised and attended school in Sedro-Woolley and Arlington.
On September 10, 1935 in Wenatchee, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Loren Calkin, and they made their home in Sedro-Woolley. Together they worked three family farms east of Sedro-Woolley raising dairy & beef cattle. They also enjoyed going on hunting and fishing trips together until his death in 1957. On March 25, 1959 she married Al Wedmore and they too made their home in Sedro-Woolley. Al also preceded her in death in 1990.
For 26 years June worked as a switchboard operator at Northern State Hospital, while she was also working the farms. She found time to go hunting and fishing, tend to her flower garden and be active in the Cyrene Chapter Order of Eastern Star where she was a Past Matron.
June is survived by her daughter, Susan Zitka of Sedro-Woolley. Her granddaughter and her husband, Carrie & Travis Rosenthal and her great-grandson, Kyan Rosenthal, all of Seattle. 2 nephews, Jack Shay and his wife, Teri of Quartzsite, AZ and Sherman Anderson of Mount Vernon, and a niece and her husband, Mary & George Van Agtmael of Scio, OR. Besides her husbands she was also preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Cecil & Virgil Davenport and 2 sisters, Virginia McReynolds and Helen Montgomery.
June’s family wishes to thank the staff at Life Care Center of Mount Vernon for their care and friendship for June during her stay.
Memorials are suggested to the Cyrene Chapter Order of Eastern Star or the Humane Society of Skagit County.
Graveside Inurnment services will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2006 at 1:00 PM at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery.
Services and cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
