LAURENCE E. ‘LARRY’ STROMME, JR., 85, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2006 at the Mira Vista Care Center in Mount Vernon. Larry was born on November 15, 1920 in Juneau, Alaska, the son of Lillian and Laurence E. Stromme, Sr. When Larry was an infant the family moved to Edmonds, WA and there he was raised and attended school, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1939. He then attended the University of Washington until enlisting in the U.S. Army during WW II. He was united in marriage to Gladys Mae Englehart in Seattle and they made their home there until moving to Newhalem in 1955 where Larry worked for Seattle City Light as a painter, painting buildings and community homes. He also served as the Newhalem Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief for many years and was one of the first E.M.T. staff there to provide medical assistance. Larry also taught Sunday school in Newhalem for the American Missionary Fellowship for many years. He retired from Seattle City Light in 1983 as the paint foreman and he and Gladys moved to Sedro-Woolley. He was active in all the senior centers in Skagit County where he would go to play pinochle and bingo. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, traveling, tending to his vegetable garden and sharing the produce with his friends and neighbors and going to the Skagit County Jail and Juvenile Detention Center and the Monroe State Prison, ministering to the inmates with Alton Vail. Larry is survived by his daughters, Susan Moore and her husband, Don of Rockport and Karen Bloom of Bothell, WA. 3 grandchildren, Brandon Moore, Denton Moore and his wife Jessica and Cecily Moore and her companion Danny Coward and 2 great-grandchildren, Teegan and Killian Moore. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys in 1993; brother, George Stromme; sister, Shirley Liebermann and a son-in-law, Raoul Bloom. Larry’s family wishes to acknowledge his care providers, Kristy, Vicki and Diana for their loving and attentive care. Memorials are suggested to Children’s Hospital or your local volunteer fire department. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at 2:00 pm at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery with Mr. Alton Vail officiating and military honors by the George Baldridge Post, American Legion.
