Lawrence Duane ‘Larry’ Lozier, 79, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at his home in Big Lake with his loving family at his side.
He was born on January 11, 1927 in Olympia, Washington, the son of George and Violet Jorgenson Lozier.
Larry grew up in the Olympia area where he attended school, graduating from Olympia High School in 1945.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947 and in the Reserves from 1949 to 1952.
Larry graduated from Seattle Pacific College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology, and then received his Education Degree from the University of Washington.
Larry was united in marriage to Irene Larson on August 12, 1950 in Seattle, WA and they resided there until moving to the Mount Vernon and Big Lake area in 1951. Larry taught in the Mount Vernon School District for 38 years and during that time he was active in the Mount Vernon Education Association and the Washington Education Association.
He was a member of Bethany Covenant Church in Mount Vernon, Kiwanis, and was a former chairman of the Skagit County Democratic Party.
He is survived by his wife, Irene, at the family home. His children, Pamela Nomura and her husband, Richard and their children, Morgan and Erica of Burien; Heather Birchman and her husband, Joel and their children, Jesse and Marissa of Monroe; Hillary Hightower and her husband, Joe and their children, Brett, Nathan and Kelsey of Burien and Leanne Duke and her husband, David and their children, Micah, Gabriel, and Tori of Washougal. A brother, Robert Lozier and his wife, Helen of Enumclaw, an aunt, Ella Donahoe of Puyallup and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gale and a granddaughter, Hannah Duke.
Graveside Services will be held on Friday, January 27, 2006 at 1:00 pm at the Odd Fellows Memorial Park, 3802 Cleveland Ave. SE, Olympia, WA. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at 2:00 pm at the Bethany Covenant Church, 1318 So. 18th St., Mount Vernon, with Pastor Kent Egging officiating. Memorials are suggested to Bethany Covenant Church or Skagit Hospice. Arrangements and services are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
