Luther Ford Rhone

Thursday, January 22nd, 2015

Luther Ford Rhone, 91, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, went home to our Lord on Thursday, January 22, 2015.

Luther was born on February 13, 1923 in Moundville, Alabama.

He joined the Navy at the age of 20 and was stationed at the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station.  While on R & R, he often attended dances at Seven Cedars where he met the love of his life, Margaret Albert, of Stanwood.   After his discharge from the Navy, Luther returned to Alabama to attend Auburn University to study animal husbandry.

Luther returned to Washington to marry Margaret; they were married on November 9, 1946 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, and together they began their dream of dairy farming south of Mount Vernon.

After several years of farming, he found his true profession as a meat cutter working for several local grocery stores as a proud member of UFCW44.    Luther retired in 1985 to enjoy a life of leisure at his residence near Cain Lake.

Luther was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings.   He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret; sons, Jim Rhone of Bellingham, Tom Rhone (Tracy) of Bellingham,  Bill Rhone (Denise) of Cain Lake, Bob Rhone of Denver, Colorado, Ed Rhone (Gretchen) of Everett, and daughter, Linda Miller (Greg) of Cain Lake.  Luther’s twelve grandchildren are, Renee (Russ), Michelle (Jason), Travis, Tiffany (Adam), Tessa (Ryan), Barry (Hannah), Brian, Jeff (Courtney), Tyler (Julia), Rochelle, Ross, and Rachel, and his eight great-grandchildren are Ty, Avery, Rebecca, Matthew, Maggie, Audrey, Walker, and Taryn.

The Rhone family extends many thanks to the wonderful staff at Birch View Memory Care Center in Sedro-Woolley where he received excellent care during his brief stay.

The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 719 Ferry Street, Sedro-Woolley.  A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 30, 2015 at the church with Father Martin Bourke and Father Tom McMichael concelebrating. Union Cemetery will be Luther’s final resting place.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Luther’s memory.
