Luther V. Broom, 81, a longtime resident of Hamilton passed away on Monday, June 12, 2006 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon with his family at his side.
He was born on June 4, 1925 in Argura, North Carolina the son of Ralph and Nan Brown Broom.
Luther was awarded 2 Purple Hearts and 5 Bronze Stars while serving his country in the U.S. Army 19th Infantry during WWII. Luther was united in marriage to Annie Brown on October 14, 1950 in Pickens, South Carolina and they moved to Washington in 1960.
Luther retired from Scott Paper in 1987, and spent his retirement working in his beloved garden.
Luther is survived by his wife Annie; a son Mike Broom and his wife Joan; grandsons Justin Broom, Kevin Broom and his wife Emily and a brother Freeman Broom all of Washington; a brother Dwight Broom and 2 sisters, Opal Keener and Dorothy Yake of North Carolina and his special girls Angie, Carla, Tessa, Mary, Anna and numerous family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers.
The family suggests memorials be made to the North Puget Oncology Foundation, 2000 Hospital Dr., Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2006 at 2:00 PM at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Ron Edwards of the Hamilton Baptist Church officiating. Interment will immediately follow at the Hamilton Cemetery. Full military honors provided by George Baldridge Post #43 American Legion, Sedro-Woolley. Services and arrangements are under the care of Lemley Chapel.
