MAE S. NORRIS, 91, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at the Mira Vista Care Center in Mount Vernon.
She was born on September 8, 1914 in Boommer Den, Tennessee, the daughter of Lonzo and Minnie Self Strickland. Her family later moved to North Carolina where she was raised and attended school.
On December 23, 1933 she was united in marriage to J. Boice Norris in North Carolina and they later made their home in South Carolina, working in the textile mills until 1947 when they moved to Hamilton, Washington. In 1957, they settled in Sedro-Woolley.
Along with being a devoted wife and mother, Mae worked seasonally for the Stokley Van Kamp cannery in Mount Vernon for about 15 years.
She was a charter member of the Hamilton First Baptist Church and a member of the Cyrene Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in Sedro-Woolley. She also enjoyed cooking, canning and gardening.
Mae survived by her 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Bud & Marcia Norris of Mount Vernon and Gerald & Cindy Norris of Lynden. 2 sisters, Zora Moore in North Carolina and Zell Henson in South Carolina. A daughter-in-law, Margaret Norris of Clear Lake; 15 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Boice in 1996, a son, J.B. ‘Red’ in 1993, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2006 at 1:00 pm at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley. Interment will follow at the Hamilton Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Hamilton First Baptist Church or the Diabetes Foundation.
