Margaret ‘Jean’ Housler, age 80, passed away Monday, September 22, 2008 at Home Place Special Care Center in Burlington, Washington.
She was born July 11, 1928 in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada to John and Margaret Bullock Bradley. Jean grew up in New Brunswick with the goal of becoming a nurse. After graduation, she attended Royal Victoria Hospital Nursing School in Montreal, Quebec attaining her R.N. Degree in 1949. She set off for California working at a hospital until moving to Cordova, Alaska to work. She met her husband Eugene who was one of her patients, a commercial fisherman, and they were married on July 3, 1954 at the Little Chapel in Cordova after a month’s courtship.
She resided half the year in Alaska, but she also lived in Washington, Nevada, and California while raising her four children. After her sons passing in 1984, she moved to Skagit County and resided in Hamilton and joined the Lyman Baptist Church where she served as deaconess. After her husband’s death in 1989 and losing her home in the 1990 Skagit River flood, she moved to Sedro-Woolley. For the past 3 years, she has resided in Burlington at Where the Heart Is and Home Place.
Her life was nursing and helping people, working to age 70 as well as traveling and enjoying her family.
Jean is survived 3 daughters; Laura Molloy and her husband John of Burlington, Lorraine Housler of Sedro-Woolley, and Linda Brownsberger and her husband John of Burlington. 6 grandchildren; Sean Molloy of Canada, Mark Housler of Burlington, Jason Molloy of Burlington, Roxanne Parks of Burlington, Misty Appel of Lyman, and Shelly Grucza of Burlington.
Sister; Geraldine Bettle of St. John, New Brunswick, Canada. Numerous nieces and nephews and her family at the Lyman Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eugene, her son Lyn, and her brother Melbourne Bradley.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Edwin Stickle, Jean at Hospice, Home Place, and Where the Heart Is for the special care given to Jean.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 11:00AM at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Wayne Hutchins of the Lyman Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be available from 9:00 Am to 5:00 Pm Thursday and Friday at Lemley Chapel. A fellowship will immediately follow the service at the home of Mabel Cook. Memorials are suggested to Skagit Hospice.
