Margaret Nicholson

Tuesday, February 11th, 2014

Margaret Jane Nicholson, age 104, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Mira Vista in Mount Vernon.

She was born on May 21, 1909 in Cullowhee, North Carolina, the daughter of James & Mary (Fox) Price.  She attended school in Cullowhee.  She met the love of her life at a church party.  On January 14, 1927, she was united in marriage to Fred L. Nicholson, in Cullowhee, before moving to the Skagit Valley in 1930, making their home just East of Sedro-Woolley.  They had three children.

Margaret enjoyed raising her family, tending to their small farm, baking, crocheting and doing ceramics.  She loved entertaining, even in her nineties.  She especially enjoyed giving things to people, whether it be baked goods, crocheted slipper socks or garden produce.

Fred and Margaret spent many winters in Arizona after retirement, and summers fishing in Eastern Washington.

She attended the Baptist Church in Sedro-Woolley and especially enjoyed the  Ladies Missionary Group.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Mary and her husband, Bill Johnson, of Sedro-Woolley; two grandchildren, Kimberly and and her husband, David Benefield, and Jeffrey Nicholson; great-grandson, Michael Rakestraw, all of North Pole, Alaska; sister in law, Pat Nicholson, of Birdsview; and daughter in law, Sue Nicholson, of Modesto, California.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; sons, Cecil & Fred Nicholson, Jr.; two brothers, Fred and Sterling Price; three sisters, Eva Daves, Grace Nicholson and Avery Simpson.

We would like to say thanks to everyone at Mira Vista for the loving care they showed my mother, all the hugs and kisses and great care., especially her caregiver for the past 1 ½ years, Kate.  Also, we would like to thank Hospice for all the wonderful care and support they showed my mother and us.  Special thanks to Hospice employees, Jessie, Lisa, Gordon, Ann and Betty.

Margaret was truly loved.

Please note the change, that the Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 11:00AM at the First Baptist Church, 511 State Street, Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Richard Coursen officiating.  A time of visitation will be available from 9-5, Thursday and Friday at Lemley Chapel. Her final resting place will be at the Greenhills Memorial Cemetery in Burlington.

    Mary and Bill,

I was so sorry to hear of Margaret’s passing. I so admired her. She made me feel young! I know the past couple years has been hard for you, but we all know she is in a better place and has a brand new body. Rest assured that you did every thing possible for her. You are in my prayers. Will talk to you in a few days when you aren’t so busy. May God keep you and bless you.

    Love ya both lots,

    Shirley & Earl
