Martha C. Stendal, 102, a resident of Clear Lake since 1928, passed away on Friday, September 7, 2007 at the Burton Care Center in Burlington.
She was born on September 9, 1904 in Penn, North Dakota, the daughter of William A. and Katherine E. Ward Schultz.
Martha was a member of the Daughters of the Nile in Seattle for over 50 years, a member of the Cyrene Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in Sedro-Woolley for over 75 years and a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Clear Lake and later in Concrete.
Martha was the mother of three children, Mark Buchanan, who preceded his mother in death, Ellis Buchanan of Clear Lake and Katherine Tewalt of Clear Lake. She was a step-mother to three sons; John Stendal of Sedro-Woolley, Bill Stendal and his wife, Eloise of Burlington and Bill Rocher and his wife, Alice of California. She was a grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and a great-great-great grandmother and step-grandmother to many children and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a sister Joan Schultz of Ballard, WA.
Besides her son Mark, she was also preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Bill Schultz, and Fred Schultz and his wife Hazel; 4 sisters, Corrine Werden and her husband Frank, Beatrice Wicker and her husband Charles, Eugenia Deroisier and her husband Ed and Gretchen Johnson and her husband Clifton.
At her request there will be no services.
The family suggests memorials to the Order of Eastern Star, Sedro-Woolley.
Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
