Marvin Lawrence Stougard

Tuesday, August 12th, 2014

Marvin Lawrence Stougard was born on April 8th in 1936 to John and Helen Stougard in Seattle, WA. Marvin was an older brother to Jan and grew up attending the Church by the Side of the Road with his family. He was involved in Sunday school and accepted Jesus as his Savior as a young boy.

Marvin’s interests were in motorcycles, cars and motor sports. He joined the Army on March 2, 1956 and was stationed in France as a mechanic. He returned to the states in February of 1959 and completed heavy equipment schooling and started in that line of work.

He met Charlotte Shaw in 1959 and they married in October of 1960. In May of 1962 his first daughter, Elaine Joy, was born and in February of 1964 his second daughter, Joyce Ann, completed their family. Marvin and Charlotte settled in Sedro-Woolley to raise their girls and purchased land and built their homes on Prairie Road where he lived until his death.

Marvin’s interests remained in vehicles and motorsports, while raising his family in church, maintaining his property, and working as an operating engineer. In 1988 Marvin retired from his line of work and began his Amsoil synthetic lubricant business. He, along with Charlotte, built this business into a successful home business offering; retail sales, commercial, and retail accounts. This business continues to operate today.

Marvin and Charlotte were blessed with 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Marvin went to be with his Savior on August 11, 2014 at his home in Sedro Woolley, WA, after a long illness with Lou Gehrig’s Disease, ALS. His last months were quiet times with his wife Charlotte and family. He spent much of his time listening to Sunlife Broadcasting Network’s gospel singing and messages.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 53 years, Charlotte Stougard of Sedro-Woolley, WA; daughter and husband, Elaine and John Allegretto of Lindale, TX; daughter and husband, Joyce and Darryl Sjodin of Lake Stevens, WA; grandson and wife, Nicholas and Kristina Allegretto of Lindale; grandson, Jeremy Sjodin of Lake Stevens; grandson and wife, Joel and Sharah Allegretto of Lindale; granddaughter and husband, Alyssa and Joe Ulrich of Lindale; granddaughter, Emily Allegretto of Lindale; and grandson, Jordan Sjodin of Lake Stevens; great grandchildren, Avery Allegretto, Paisley Allegretto, Maverick Allegretto, Madison Allegretto and Gretta Ulrich all from Lindale; and sister and husband, Jan and Mark Smith of SeaTac, WA.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00, Saturday, August 16, 2014, at His Place Community Church, 1480 S. Burlington Blvd, Burlington, WA. A time of visitation is available Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, from 9-5 at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley. A private interment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA, “Where Heroes Rest.”

    Charlotte,

It has certainly been an honor and a privilege to be one of your and Marv’s neighbors in the relatively short time I have lived on the adjacent property. When I moved in six years ago, I was welcomed with open arms by both you and the Page family.

Coming to know Marv as a physically active individual, it was very difficult for me when I learned that he was battling ALS. Even so, I will not pretend to understand completely how you have managed to maintain your own strength and courage during this entire period.

As truly God-loving Christian people, you have lived up to the ideals set forth by the Lord by putting your faith into action. Now, with each new winter snow, I will always remember how Marv used to hop on his tractor whenever it was deep enough to cause us problems. Not only would he plow the steep main driveway that is shared by three households, Marv would also clear a path on the spur leading over to my garage door — without ever being asked to do so!

Please know that I will be keeping you and the rest of your family in my ongoing prayers.

Charlotte, Elaine, Joyce & family, May you feel God’s presents and know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time of need. I have a few memories of being with Elaine and talking about how her dad loved the Lord, and worked hard for his family. May you have memories that will make you both laugh and bring tears of joy in the days and years to come.

    Love to all,

    Suzanne & Shem Heller
