Matilda ‘Tillie’ Anderson, 87, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2007 at the Family Comfort Adult Home.
She was born on April 19, 1919 in Lind, Washington to Russian immigrants, Gottlieb & Katherine Kries Sackman.
As a young girl Tillie and her family moved to Sedro-Woolley where her family operated a dairy farm and where she was raised and attended school.
She lived most of her life in Sedro-Woolley where she raised he two daughters and worked at several jobs to support them. She worked as a nurses aid at Northern State Hospital for 10 years, was a housekeeper, a bookkeeper for the Carpenter’s Union in Anacortes and a bartender at Ike’s Tavern in Sedro-Woolley and at Evelyn’s Tavern in Clear Lake. What ever she did, she did it well!
On September 29, 1983 she was united in marriage to Harold Anderson in Mount Vernon and together they made their home in Bridgeport, WA until his death in 1986. In 2004 Tillie returned to Sedro-Woolley.
Tillie enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens and fishing.
She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon & Truman Hoyle of Sedro-Woolley and Wanda & Conrad Freeling of Marysville. A step-daughter, Francie Maddy and her husband, Jim of Benton City, WA. A brother, Leroy Sackman and his wife, Mollie of Burlington, WA and a sister, Violet Van Balcom of Fairfield, MT. 4 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, 8 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was also preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 1 sister and a grandson, Brian Hoyle in 1999.
A special thank you to Family Comfort Adult Home for their special care of Tillie, to Dr. Stickle, who Tillie really liked and thought was the best, and to Skagit Hospice who came to help Tillie, but also comforted her family.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery with Pastor Joe Miller of the Sedro-Woolley Community Church officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the Sedro-Woolley Community Church or to Skagit Hospice.
Visitation is available at, and services are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
