Melva Curtis

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

On a bright day, her garden in full grandeur, Melva Curtis passed at her home in Sedro Woolley, Sunday April 15, 2007. Creating gardens and homes of sanctuary and beauty for her family have always been her life’s themes. May her next garden be as well.
Melva was born in Seattle, Washington in 1920, first child of Ralph and Sadie Gawley Wilbourne. She was big sister and protector of younger brothers, Ronald and Robert Wilbourne. Married just before Pearl Harbor, she and her husband, Isaac ‘Curt’ Curtis, USCG chief boatswain’s mate of the USS Atalanta, later lived in Seattle, where they raised their children, Steve, Ramona and Carol. They moved to Sedro- Woolley in 1973.
Steve and wife Katy Curtis live in Wyoming near their son Mark and daughter-in-law Aiyanna and their four children. Steve and Katy’s son, Scott Curtis and wife Shay reside in Monroe with their four children. Melva’s daughter Ramona Curtis lives in Seattle and daughter Carol Douthitt is on Whidbey Island with husband Chris.
It was Melva’s strongest wish to remain in her own home until her passing. Our heartfelt thanks go to the visiting staff of Skagit Hospice and Pat Curtis Cassal for assisting us with our mom’s homecare that allowed us to make Mom’s wish a reality.
Remembrances may be sent to Skagit Hospice at P.O. Box 1376, Mt. Vernon, WA 98273.
Cremation arrangements were under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
