Michael Edward Powell

Friday, May 15th, 2015

Michael E. Powell, 74, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away at his home on May 15, 2015.
Mike was born on December 21, 1940 in San Diego, CA, the oldest of four children of Jack W. & Beatrice L. (Woodworth) Powell.

During WW II the family relocated to several naval bases when his father was reassigned. In 1946 the family settled in Burien, WA and there Mike graduated from Highline High School in 1959. He then joined the Naval Air Reserves and was stationed at NAS Whidbey Island for four years. During this time he met his wife, Julie Dennis and they were united in marriage in February of 1963 and they moved to NAS Memphis, TN where Mike was stationed while attending aviation electronics school. Upon completion of his classes Mike was reassigned to NAS Sand Point in Seattle.

In 1969 following his naval career, Mike worked for Honeywell Marine Systems in Ballard as an acoustical test technician.

In 1973 the family moved to the Skagit Valley, living on a small family farm. Mike went to work as a salesman for Skagit Ford Subaru, his favorite job, where he could help people and tell his tall tales and jokes; he enjoyed everyone he met. He retired in 2006.

Mike is survived by his wife of 52 years, Julie; daughter, Rachel Randolph of Daytona Beach, FL; sons, David Powell (Colleen) of Soldatna, AK and Jon Powell of Sedro-Woolley; brother, Jonathan Powell; sisters, Jacquelin Powell and Brienne Parker (Cliff); 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 1:00 pm at His Place Church, 1480 S Burlington Blvd., Burlington. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley. Share memories of Mike and sign the online guest register at www.lemleychapel.com.

I remember Mikes great sense of humor and his always smiling face. I remember when he played a shepherd to entertain the people in line for the Christmas Eve service. His quick wit always had me laughing. He and Dallas used to stand around talking while Dallas prepared the coffee for church. Mike sold us my first car. You will be missed Mike. My heart and prayers are with you Julie. So sorry for your loss.

    Julie & Family-
Julie I met Mike at Norton’s VW when Mike worked with Archie & Boss Marv & his wife Betty. He was always kind to me & my son Trav. ( Trav was 5 then & he is now 40! ) Would have a great time chatting with him when I was at the shop.
Later on in life I worked at Creekside Retirement Community & I ran into you both eating breakfast with your church. I met you in the lobby. I last saw Mike in the Creekside lobby a few years back.

Mike was a beloved member of the Skagit Ford Subaru Tapley family for many years. He was a dear friend to us all. Mike had a wonderful sense of humor and a great laugh that was contagious. He could captivate us all with stories of his life, and I never grew tired of hearing them. Mike was a wonderful friend and I, and my family will miss his body, but his spirit will live on in our hearts forever. God bless you Mr. Powell.
